“What I’m not sure you understand is that for some of us older folks who were raised as very conservative Christians before there was a Limbaugh, even before Falwell launched his Moral Majority,”

"My law degree is from Liberty University. I was a member of the inaugural class of 2007."

I am confused... Are you a crusty old curmudgeon, or are you a wet behind the ears anti-mormon crusader? Can you be both? Or are you just confused about when you graduated from law school? One thing that I have noted about persons who appear to be here mainly to be disruptive is that their dates never seem to add up from post to post. But I do applaud and congratulate you on your accomplishments either way.

I am not Mormon, but one of my subordinates at work is. He is a very conservative and sincere person. I would trust him with my life and every once in a while in my line of work that occasionally has true meaning. The last time that I checked people in this country were still free to worship God in the way that they pleased. I have known a lot of Mormons during my life and every one has been good to me.

Many years ago I was a member of a small Southern Baptist Missionary Church. We grew to about sixty members. At first we met in member's houses and then later we started renting other churches facilities. All of us were very sincere in our beliefs, and had a lot of passion.

An argument started about an issue that had biblical origins... three decades later I can't even remember exactly what it was about, but it caused our group of sixty to split into two groups of thirty. Eventually nearly all of us dispersed to other churches. It was all very sad and in hindsight what seemed so important at the time should have been resolved before it ended in the destruction of what we had built. Believe it or not I learned to be more accepting of other people's points of view from that experience.

In my experience most of the people in conservative forums attempting to discourage others from voting for the only person who has a chance of sending Obama packing have malicious intent. I am sorry if you feel that your motives, for wanting our country to be irreversibly damaged and the future of our children and grandchildren to be jeopardized are benign. I am skeptical because of my previous experiences lying Obama trolls playing mind games with conservatives.

Can you be both?

And Mind Games, too?

I don’t blame you for your skepticism. It’s a hard problem. We are just pixels on a screen after all. That’s why I’d like to go to a freeper convention someday. Once you’ve seen me in person (after you got over the shock and horror), you would have, I hope, an easier time accepting that I’m just being me. I have no idea if or when one of those events is going to happen anytime soon. I had hoped to meet some freepers at the Indianola Palin event, but there were home obligations and I didn’t go.

As for my “curmudgeonosity,” I went to law school in my early 50’s. Up till that time, I had been a humble software engineer (VB,SQL, etc., mainly business apps, but one stint with a nuke control room simulator – now that was fun). Why law school? Midlife crisis, search for significance, and maybe a hedge against getting old in a technical profession. Who knows. My kids were college age, so we were all going together. Kinda fun.

So yes, I’m rather oldish, and my law degree is rather newish. And no, it wasn’t easy. Especially when staying up till 4 am prepping for class makes you fall asleep during class. Fortunately, I didn’t get called on that day. But there was laughter.

And yes, I get what you’re saying about church splits and doctrinal disagreements. Much of it is unnecessary and unfortunate. It hurts people and can permanently sour them on churches in general. Baby out with the bathwater. But you still have to teach the flock to watch out for the wolves.

Anyway, hope that clears things up for you a little.

Peace,

SR
