Shortly after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney enjoyed cookies and soft drinks with the Rev. Billy Graham and his son Franklin Graham on Thursday at the elder Graham's mountaintop retreat, a reference to Mormonism as a cult was scrubbed from the website of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
In a section of the website called Billy Graham's My Answer there had been the question "What is a cult?"
Answer: "A cult is any group which teaches doctrines or beliefs that deviate from the biblical message of the Christian faith."
"Some of these groups are Jehovah's Witnesess, Mormons, the Unification Church, Unitarians, Spritualists, Scientologists, and others," the site continued.
No longer. On Tuesday, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association confirmed that page has recently been removed from the site.
Our primary focus at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has always been promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ," Ken Barun, chief of staff for the association, told CNN in a statement. "We removed the information from the website because we do not wish to participate in a theological debate about something that has become politicized during this campaign."

Apparently
There are Catholics and then there are Catholics.
Covers a multitude of sins and cultishness, like this one:

Believe me, some of the “Christians” out there, you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley.
One evil justifies other evils? Even sadder.
I am sooooo impressed with svcw who has been very baaaaad about flinging his ever morphing accusation as though it was unchanged, precise biblical truth. Oh, I am ready to faaaaaaaaaaall at his feet. (NOT)
Since I am not a Catholic I don’t know the inner workings except how it relates to my Catholic family, a couple of Nuns and a Priest included (not uncommon in Italian families). So from Nuns and Priests to a cousin who calls himself a four times a year and only with mama Catholic.
(oh they are all rabid conservatives)
I would have anyone of them at my side in a battle.
I’ll take a look at your link. Thanks
As if none had been cited or as if any common sense acquaintance with the bible could not turn up many ways. I am not walking into your trap.
Its pretty much expected on any of these threads.
“(oh they are all rabid conservatives)”
An unusual way to refer to a ‘fellow’ conservative.
They are an interesting group, just to expand on the ‘rabid’ comment. It just seemed to be an easy way to describe them.
They are New York, second generation Italians - they are rabid about everything they do.
Maybe a better phrase would be ‘hyper passionate’.
Or take no prisoners when it comes to defending God, family and country.
They are loud and extraordinarily opinionated.
There is nothing they do that is calm and cool.
Unless you experience these family groups, there is no way to know.
Makes for wonderful and entertaining Sunday afternoon family dinners.
Billy Graham has been under attack from various Christian groups for a very long time. My sister in law belonged to a church that considered him a candidate for Antichrist because he was friendly with Catholics. Not kidding.
What I’m not sure you understand is that for some of us older folks who were raised as very conservative Christians before there was a Limbaugh, even before Falwell launched his Moral Majority, this idea that we would ever be asked to support what we regard as an agent of Satan for president, because the other guy is worse, well, we didn’t think it would happen in our lifetime. Perhaps a dispensational influence, but I think many of us thought the rapture would happen before we were ever pushed into this dilemma.
So I realize this is hard for you to grasp, but you have to know its hard for us too. The dissenters here do not work for or want Obama to win. But for many Christians, particularly older Christians raised as I was, voting for one antichrist to get rid of another antichrist is an impossible to solve problem. We love our country as much as anyone does, and we have the history to prove it. But how will we fare as a country if we openly reject the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in favor of the Gnostic pantheon of Mormonism? How can God bless us if we spit in his face? We are already in trouble for our wickedness, and we hope to solve it by adding to it? I don’t get that. Call me a product of an earlier time, a relic of the past, but for me, this is a bridge too far. I can only appeal to the mercy of God. It’s all we really have left.
Peace,
SR
Nicely stated and explained - thanks.
In this country we can support a candidate who is not of the same faith as us as long as he is a good man and pledges to uphold the constitution. Mitt Romney is not the one who is attacking Christianity at every turn. Mitt Romney is certainly not the Antichrist. I do not believe that your arguments are sincere. Obama most likely would not have one the first time around if many Conservative Christians were not victims of the same type of discourage the vote type of campaign that you are advocating.
Too many people have died trying to preserve the precious gift God gave us. Those of us who live free in this country owe it to those before us and our children and grandchildren and their grandchildren to preserve what we have been given. I am highly offended by your efforts to help Obama. You and a bunch of the others here could not be more irresponsible and I am ashamed of you. No matter how you sugar coat it... you are shirking your responsibility as an American and I curse your evil intent.
Same goes to you, you vote suppressing crackpot.
huh?
Take a look at 152
Forum rules prohibit your personal attacks. They diminish all of us. But it is a free country, and will be as long as God continues to bless us. God knows my heart, and he knows my history. There is part of me that wishes we could meet. I’d introduce you to my family. I’d let you look at my voting record, my financial contributions, etc. I’d put you in touch with any and every personal reference you asked for, whether from work or church, and they’d all confirm for you that I am exactly whom I represent myself to be. Your paranoid theory that everyone.e here who can’t vote for Romney is an Obama plant, is most likely a construct you need to rationalize your own decision to support a man whose business it is to delude souls into rebellion against God. I can understand why you would need a defense mechanism for that, and I forgive you for it. If you ever reconsider your position sometime in the future, you know where I can be found. I’ll leave the light on for you.
Peace,
SR
Oh, I get it now, you were referring to yourself over the crackpot quip.
I quote my own words because as a lawyer you have tried to confuse the argument by accusing me of violating forum rules by making “personal attacks”. I would appreciate it if you could clarify which parts of my post you consider to be “personal attacks”. I would be glad to take the time to meet you if you live somewhere in my part of the country. We live about 20 miles Southeast of Seattle, WA.
To further clarify my point of view... actively attempting to discourage your fellow citizens on a conservative forum from voting for the only person who has a chance of beating Obama in the upcoming election... is irresponsible and the most likely explanation is evil intent. You have stated that you are a lawyer and you do have the gift of flowery writing and a talent for confusing the issues. But despite your skills of distraction using esoteric details all of your arguments fall apart when looking at the big picture.
I have to admit that when I discovered you were a lawyer it did not make me feel any better about your likely motives... it reminds me of the following joke actually:
You're trapped in a room with a tiger, a rattlesnake and a lawyer. You have a gun with two bullets. What should you do?
Shoot the lawyer. Twice.
What ???
and let Rattlesnake Romney bite you...once ???
