Candy Crowley, moderator of the second presidential debate may have a trick up her sleeve if things get tense between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney - she practices transcendental meditation twice a day.
The CNN anchor, who will be in charge of the 'town hall' style debate at Hofstra university on Long Island, New York, took up meditation after the 2008 election and managed to achieve what one website called a 'natural state of restful alertness'. She also credits the practice with her weight loss.
And in a campaign in which red meat rhetoric designed to attract party 'base' voters is ever present, she is a committed vegetarian.

In May, Crowley gave the commencement address for students at the Maharishi University of Management. The university was set up in 1974 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who created transcendental meditation, in Fairfield, Iowa.
Its mission is to 'provide a consciousness-based education holistic, relevant education for a successful life not just a career to ensure our happiness and to make real contributions in the world' and 'meditation and spiritual growth, self-exploration, higher consciousness, spirituality, and inner peace through the transcendental meditation technique'.
The meditation involves the repeated repetition of a sound, called a mantra, and is practiced for 1520 minutes twice per day, while sitting with closed eyes.
Crowley told the gathered students: 'To get to where you want to go, you first have to stand and be who you are,' she said.

Is she going to have a T.M. before she goes on the air tonight?
You didn’t give me any clarifications whatsoever.
One of the things that drives me nuts about most Christians today is this notion of reading the Bible and interpreting it to support their own prejudices.
I can get 20 Christians in the same room and everybody is going to interpret the Bible the way want to.
And I don’t know what your quote has to do with meditation.
However, I guarantee you this:
If you sat for 20 minutes in the morning and evening and said the word Jesus to yourself in the mind, you are not going to be possessed by the devil and do evil things.
They misspelled "Ho-Hos".
You are lost in dreamland and should seek help from a strong Christian pastor with experience in demons.
Candy Crowley
Any relation to Aleister Crowley?
You make light of something that destroys lives.
Swell guy!
That is quintessential circular firing squad argument that is constantly thrown about, but doesn't stand firm on its own weak foundation.
God gave us His Word in clear, easy to understand, and thoughtful language. It says what it means, and it means what it says.
When He says homosexuality is wrong, a child could understand it.
People who will not accept His Word twist themselves into knots trying to say it doesn't mean what it says it says.
You arbitrarily accuse Christians of "interpreting it to support their own prejudices" and then offer zero Biblical evidence to prove this as fact. Moreover, you throw out the accusation itself in order to conform to your prejudices.
If I say that the Bible speaks about the armor of God and power and principalities on this thread, I have quoted Scripture.
You have pointed fingers using your own notions, not God's.
If you sat for 20 minutes in the morning and evening and said the word Jesus to yourself in the mind, you are not going to be possessed by the devil and do evil things.
You understand less about evil, demons, and possession than you do about Scripture. I pray you don't learn the truth the hard way.
She looks like Marjorie Margolies, or maybe Dawn French -- or like something out of Blackadder.
Presidential debate moderator has history of Planned Parenthood/abortion support
I love Blackadder.
“It helps me to maintain balance... WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”
Yes, gotta love that.
Maybe you need to read what I wrote again. You seem to have not comprehended it very well.
Transcendental Meditation must cause one heck of an appetite.
“Debate moderator Candy Crowley’s secret of success? Transcendental meditation”
I thought it was Twinkies!
The Bible is clear that any worship that is not towards the true God is towards devils . . . that does not equate to open and deliberate worship of Satan (i.e. believing in your own conscience that you are worshiping the enemy of God and intending to do so), but the Bible calls that kind of stuff Satanic notwithstanding. Now if you have a problem with that, take it up with the Bibles author.
OK, again, in order for you thesis that TM is Satanic to work, in your own words, it must be an act of worship. You chose the word 'worship' all on your own. What you have not done is to demonstrate that TM is a form of worship.
You tell me, what am I missing? It's very easy to just tell me I'm wrong, but the telling doesn't make it so.
I never said that meditation must be at all times an act of worship, nor did I write any such thing on this message board. Not only are you deliberately putting words in my mouth, you are making false claims.
I don’t have to demonstrate anything. TM was invented by a religious (Hindu) guru and he himself presented it in religious terms, especially when he talked of the mantras in terms of being “personal deities”. Now if you have a problem with that, then it is your problem alone.
ACK! Her Buddha belly must cover her eyes!
