The formerly great St Vincent de Paul Society, alas, has a huge number of leftists in it - the sort of “Peace and Justice” types who are the kind of parish lefties who write letters praising Obama and urging all Catholics who “care about justice” to vote for him. One of our parish lefties, also a St Vincent de Paul volunteer, wrote just such a letter to our local paper, days after our bishop had come out to remind us that Catholics could not vote for anyone who held the positions on abortion and freedom of conscience such as those held by “certain candidates,” meaning Obama.
This appearance had to have been arranged in advance, and the lefty president of the group probably couldn’t get enough support from the board to stop it and was just angry about it.
I suppose there would be no complaints if Obama showed up for a photo op.
I was president of our St. V d P in our local church. When they were urging support for “healthcare reform” (and Obamacare was the only one on the table), I forwarded to the Canon running the church, and he agreed to pull out. We are now the St. Francis de Sales Society.
A perfect example of how the Catholic Church is not in full-throated opposition to Obama (and is frankly prepared to start paying for birth control no matter what they say).
At our Mass on Sunday we got one line at the end of the Homily and one line in our bulletin directing us to go to our Parish website were we could view a video produced by the Conference of Catholic Bishops regarding Obamacare and the upcoming vote.
Now THAT’S strong stuff! /sarc
