The nationally syndicated show Smiley & West has been dumped by WBEZ-FM (91.5), one of the nations largest carriers of the Public Radio International show. The news, first reported last week by Time Out Chicago blogger Rob Feder, is a blow to both Smiley and the cause of diversity.
The move has triggered a wave of charges and countercharges and has resurrected a long-simmering controversy over the role of black voices in the era of Obama.

Amazing that even by the standards of NPR, he has so small an audience that no one is listening.
Must be a pretty crappy show.
There are so many no talent no accounts in the media and in politics who would be swiping EBT CARDS if it weren't for them flashing their treasured RACE CARDS.

LOL! Good one!
Maybe Tavis can hook up with ObamaPhone Lady and get a free cell phone until he finds another liberal outlet to work for
Chicago radio is dog eat dog and 100% about ratings and has been forever. They are being dumped on the merits. Too bad.
Tavis is a creepy Marxist bigot....just like our President.
Not only is his audience low, I bet they don’t contribute during the fundraiser drives.
NPR might be looking to the future where they might have to make a profit.
Oh No! Cornell West too?!!
Tavis Smiley is one of the dumbest people on radio and TV.
I was on his show over a year ago. He is, lessee, a polite ass.
Tavis was a one-trick pony: Whitey “bad”, reparations “good”.
NPR in Chicago-land? Tune to 98.7!
Drop NPR.
He is almost as bad as columnists Leonard Pitts and Eugene Robinson...and almost as dumb Eric Dyson.
The station dropped him?
I wonder how big the splatter was and who got stuck cleaning up the stinking pile.
Just put him back on at 3am and be done with it.
You can’t fire a black person unless you want to be sued broke for racism.
Agree. I had a tendency to listen to a public radio station on Sunday afternoons because they carried a couple of good music programs and readings of short stories. Sandwiched in between was the Tavis Smiley show. It was grindingly boring in terms of basically discussing everything from the black racist point of view. Very politely, mind you, but just so damn monotonous and predictable on every damn issue. Usually had to throw something at the radio after the first 10 minutes.
