Romney’s getting his J.D. and MBA degrees simultaneously from Harvard (and I assume while married with at least one child) is an amazing accomplishment. Why clutter that with honorary Ph.D.s? The point of those posts was that the ‘honorary Ph.D.s’ take away from the earned degrees, if merit as between the two candidates is what is being compared.

Romeny holdes an “earned” ph.d in law.

This is false. Romney has a J.D. in law which is a 3 year degree with no dissertation or thesis.

A "earned ph.d" requires a dissertation and about 5-7 years of combined study and research. An honorary ph.d requires one evening of entertainment and preferably a check.

Honorary degrees aren’t squat. Count them and you’d be giving lots of bad Democrat pols way too much credit.

Neither Barry nor Romney are currently practicing lawyers with law licenses. AFAIK, Romney in fact never practiced or, maybe, had a law license.

This isn’t the way to go after the Marxist Muslim.

Kid most of the FReepers could have got 2 degrees at the one time if we didnt have to work our way through college...

Your Wee Willie didnt work a day while he was in college...

nor did his wife have to work...

I worked, kept house, raised children and helped my husband who was also in college full time and working..

and thought nothing of it...

everyone I knew in college was doing the same...

Extremely well said. This is about merit and Romney’s accomplishment. It is amazing how many fly swatter freepers are so dismissive of Romney’s accomplishments. It is as if these people are jealous of what he can do. This guy is a power house. A lot of freepers are a real catty bunch of wannabes.

It is not stupid at all if the idea is to get a comprehensive background in law in order to conduct business in a better way. This makes total sense. You seem an expert in everything which one wonders why you troll on FreeRepublic like this. One would think people would be banging at your door willing to pay big bucks for such an informed know-it-all.

Girlie if your Wee Willie really had wanted to accomplish anything he would have taken that JD got his law license and practied for a few years where it just might have helped someone...

As it was just for show he wasted his time...

and his Daddy’s money...

The assumption is that you would have accomplished the same things as Romney with his connections. That is totally arrogant. A lot of silver spooned kids fail miserably. You cannot deny Romney his accomplishments no matter how envious you are.

The Juris Doctor is what almost every law school confers on its graduates. I know enough lawyers from Columbia all the way down to Touro Law School, and all possess a J.D.

And the point is?

I think most people who hear 'simultaneous' think that Romney was attending both the B-school and the law school at the same time and carrying a double academic workload. That's not true. At no time during the joint program do you carry more than a standard academic workload.

That said, successfully completing the joint program is an accomplishment.

“Honorary Degrees”

Seriously? You are counting those?

“Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a juris doctor degree? Not many can do it and that is why law firms give signing bonuses for such.”

ROFL! You are soooooo ignorant. Do you have any idea what a “juris doctor” is?

In this is is like most every American politician — no classical education or exposure to the liberal arts, and therefore not an educated man but a mere technocrat:

Yes, but unfortunately it seems these days that 95% of classically educated people turn into Marxists. I wish it were not so, but this is exactly what William F. Buckley meant when he said he would rather be governed by the first 400 names in the Boston phone book than the faculty of Harvard University.

“Here is another way you could have said it to be crystal clear.

You: While I am not that impressed by honorary ph’d’s, earning a juris doctor is quite an achievement. Add to that a masters in business and a bachelors in liberal arts and Romney shows and ability to learn and persevere. Honorary degrees show that he has quite a bit of respect from the community. END”

I say what I mean and mean what I say so read the next line carefully. What I said WAS crystal clear to anyone who is not an idiot.
