Washington (CNN) After near-universal bad reviews of his first presidential debate with Mitt Romney, President Barack Obama will bring more energy and passion to his second showdown with the GOP nominee, advisers to the president said Sunday.
Yet the come-out-swinging attitude many Democrats crave could be hindered by the debate's town hall format, which requires a likability factor not completely compatible with aggressive attacks.

Do his best Reagan impression. Be smiling, competent, optomistic and at ease. Answer the questions honestly instead of trying to spin them
Look Presidential while Obama makes himself look like the jackass he is.
That will win him both the right and the middle.
His "John, the election's over." nastiness came when he perceived himself as the victor for all time.
He'll just double down now that he's covered in flop sweat and make Biden look respectful and thoughtful by comparison.
Think claw marks on the Oval Office doorframe.
Indeed and BUMP.
Is he playing golf instead of coming?
If he dispenses with politeness he will lose the independents.
Rudeness, arrogance, personal attacks and an inability
to make a cogent case for re-election will be his downfall.
Obama comes out swinging at the 2nd debate. Highlight reel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoDG3k5cPZw&sns=em
Maybe she has found a Secret Service Agent who like women with big butts & Horse teeth.
Why not? He's an angry black racist who hates white people ("Behaved stupidly") and obviously/reporting hates Romney with an unearthly passion.
I expect he'll be full of piss and vinegar.
The sooner he's unemployed the sooner we can begin recovery of 4 years of his ruinous regime.
Go ahead and destroy the one remaining attribute keeping you afloat in the polls Barky, your likeability.
Do you think Obama has any idea how unmatched he and Romney are?
Romney has facts and figures; Obama has Cousin Pookie and Obamaphones.
Like he “wrote” his books?
You'll be tipped off if he did if they begin,”Ahhh....umm....you know...”
He and John Kerry are probaby just pretending to rehearse.
Victims, by their nature, have an undercurrent of anger. Whatever the issue raised, Obama will confirm the presence of a group who has been unjustly victimized, and express their anger for them, in the process levelling blame against the rich, the republicans, Romney, the "millionaires and billionaires," whoever. The whiners will perceive this as empathy and "knowing how we feel."
Obama can appear to be "one of us" if he can direct the anger toward a useful target, like Romney. It is not different from what Hitler did in the thirties, scapegoating his opponents as the source of the injustices felt by Germans in the aftermath of WWI.
Forget "likeability." Vindication of feelings and grievances will trump that every time.
What’s obama gonna do? Hit Romney with his purse.
Obama cannot run on his record.
Obama cannot bring up Bain if he is invested in a outsourcing company owned by Bain.
Romney is going to make Obama eat his peas
And that always works with the media and their thoughtless consumers, doesn’t it?!
Obama is only one spoiled-child outburst away from his own “God Damn’ America” moment.
With his visceral hatred of Romney, Mitt may just be the one to push the right button.
Don’t underestimate cheap sentimentality, Painter of Light (TM) Thomas Kinkade and Billy Joel both got filthy rich on it!
This is a Town hall debate. The last Town hall that I remember was between Hillary and Obama. They each lined up their questions before the debate, some of the questions were just handed out to random people before the debate, others were specifically picked to ask certain questions. Obama gave away the game when he greeted the questioner by her first name and told people that she was the head of the SEIU Kitchen Workers Union in Las Vegas, where the debate was held. It will be the same in this debate, only Romney won’t get a chance to write any of the questions or pick any of the questioners. All the nasty accusations will come from the questioners.
Huge mistake. If he goes on the offensive, he will look like the a-hole that he is.
He is masterful at saying nothing, and saying it well, In a townhall format.
