I hate these so called townhall debates. Way too much opportunity for the fix.
I hope Romney is prepared for everything and anything. I can see it now, some African American woman stands up and claims her husband is in the marines and according to Romney they are part of the 47% that he doesn’t care about. ‘Why don’t you care about us Mr. Governor...why?”
ugh
I don’t know if it would be good debate strategy to explain this or not, but the truth (how scary!) is that he never said he didn’t care about these people.
What he said was his “job is not to worry about those people.” If you look at the context, it is clear the meaning is that he can’t worry about trying to get their vote, because there is nothing he can do to get it. So he will expend no effort or money on trying to do so.
If I say “my job is not to worry about my mother” that doesn’t mean that I don’t care about her.
Romney was talking campaign strategy, i.e., how to get votes. He was not talking about his personal feelings.
