President Obama's bringing in The Boss.
On Thursday, Bruce Springsteen will join former president Bill Clinton at an Obama rally in Parma, Ohio. The campaign announced later that the iconic New Jersey rocker would add another stop that same day in Ames, Iowa.
Springsteen is no stranger to Democratic rallies. The weekend before election day in 2008, he warmed up a crowd of 80,000 people at an Obama event in Cleveland. Four years prior, Springsteen took part in a similar rally for Sen. John Kerry. Tuesday will be his first campaign event in this election cycle.
"Bruce Springsteens values echo what the president and vice president stand for: hard work, fairness, integrity, Obama campaign manager Jim Messina told Ohio's The Plain Dealer. "His appearances will help with our get out the vote effort in these critical swing states and we are thrilled with his ongoing support."
Polls show the race in Ohio is tightening. As National Journal's Major Garrett reported on Wednesday, "The gap has closed from what was an 8 to 10 point Obama lead to just outside the margin of error." Consequently, Democrats are redoubling efforts there. Real Clear Politics's average of polls has Obama up by 1.3 points in the state.
In Iowa, Obama also has seen his lead shrink, according to polls.
No word on which songs Springsteen might be playing at either show -- or whether Clinton will join in on sax.
Leave Neil Young out of this. His body of work is tremendous, I can forgive his recent hyper liberalism
...but Pete Seeger is more an iconic symbol of the Communist left than anything else. That is why he performed at Obamas 2009 inaugural.
If Neil Young died tomorrow he would get a tremendous tribute from Freepers. He’s Canadian (living in Northern California) anyhow so cannot vote for 0bama
Same here.
In “Sweet Home Alabama” LS wasn't exactly praising Neal for his conservatism.
He is an ignorant liberal Canuck but does have some really good music..”Down By The River” is still one of my guitar favorites even though like “Hey Joe” it tries to excuse murder.
January, 1971: Jane Fonda raises funds for the Winter Soldier Investigation through a series of benefit concerts. Participants include Fonda, Dick Gregory, Donald Sutherland, Graham Nash, David Crosby and Phil Ochs. Fonda is named Honorary National Coordinator of the event.
February 16, 1971: Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland form "FTA" (F*** The Army), an anti-war, anti-American road show that tours near Army bases in order to undermine troop morale. Skits and songs portray American defeats, soldiers refusing to fight, and the murder of officers by their troops. FTA cast members mingle with soldiers after the shows, encouraging them to desert or to sabotage the Army.

What a dummy...his type can afford the huge taxations, not us!
re: “Leave Neil Young out of this. His body of work is tremendous, I can forgive his recent hyper liberalism”
Look, I love his musical work as well - I have been a big fan of his music, but politically he’s always been an absolute idiot and has never changed. He has always been hyper-liberal.
It saddens me that very few of these guys ever admit their mistakes of youth.
He is more liberal and more Obama tool than Brucie
It’s about all they are worth.I don’t care for his singing just saying he makes a living at it.
He kicks Springsteen's puny butt.
Born In Ken—ya....He Was Born in Ken-Ya...Obama born in Ken—ya
BTW, I would take Steven Harper over Obama in a heartbeat.
Born in the USA is clearly an anti-American song. Yet you regularly hear it played at patriotic events, and by people you'd think would or should know better. I've seen it played at events sponsored by (pro-American) Vietnam veteran groups. 4th of July, etc.
Bruce is sure to have his accounting staff prepare his taxes WITHOUT the “Bush” tax cuts, right?
My husband and I have talked about this for literally decades. We graduated in mid-60’s from HS. And what we have witnessed is the faux peace-loving, hippies from the 60’d took over the schools, the government at the fed, state and community level and are entrenched. But I see finally, some huge amount of us (call us T.E.A Party or whatever you want) have frankly had just enough. No more “that's racist”, and all the other guilt trips they try to lay on us. NO MORE. They have used up their chips years ago, but now that Ozippy was elected, lied through his teeth, did opposite of what he campaigned on - typical Dem - it's OVER zippy - NO ONE is BUYING what you be sellin’. Hey lefties are ya Getting all this? Vote R/R and GOP senate and house to get this country back on the road to excellence.
Yup LOL Peas in a pod.
He was sued and settled out of court for not paying his roadies overtime and they get no benefits.
He also has an estate in NJ and avoids property taxes by getting a farm assessment.
Phony.
