I watched with sheer amazement, as almost every single mistake Al Gore made with George W. Bush at a Presidential debate, Joe Biden repeated.
Oh, certainly, he did not have too much makeup on, nor did he attempt to stride up to Ryan menacingly (which would have earned him the same bemused look Bush gave Gore), but everything else? Check. Check. And check.
Biden was heard sighing and chuckling in the background. His voice dripped with contempt, even when describing his own plans and ideas. He overtalked so much that at one point, it seemed like Ryan should make like he was about to say something, then stop, just to bait Biden into preemptively interrupting:
Ryan: (makes motion like he is about to speak)I call this form of interruption-baiting 'balk-talk'. Biden's interruptions and overtalking were so rude, the moderator had to publicly chide Biden NOT to interrupt during the very sensitive discussion of the role of religion in their diametrically opposed positions regarding abortion. If I may digress momentarily about the abortion question, Joe Biden had to tacitly admit the Catholic position was pro-life, but in a squirming stretch, made the case that Jewish, Islamic, and other religions are not. His answer was befuddling to most, and most notably, seemed befuddling to Joe Biden.
Biden: (interrupting) "That's just bullcrap."
Ryan: (makes another motion like he is about to speak)
Biden: (interrupting) "What a liar."
Ryan: "I didn't say anything yet."
Biden: "Well, if you had, it would have been bullcrap and lies."
Biden was rude and condescending throughout the debate, and demonstrated flashes of anger consistently through the debate. We all know men who act like Joe Biden acted, but usually, they are holding a beer, in a trailer park, wearing a wife-beater t-shirt, and menacing their spouses with a threatened backhand.
I made an immediate prediction that Biden's performance was sure to hurt the Obama/AngryJoe ticket with Independents and especially with WOMEN, who all have dated an arrogant, angry jerk JUST LIKE JOE BIDEN, at least once in their lives.
CNN promptly confirmed this prediction on the air, on Wednesday night, with the little data they had at their disposal. I suspect we will see a lot more of polling data that will show that Biden's maniacal, rude, attack-poodle Al Gore imitation will inure to his ticket's detriment among the all-important woman vote.
Altitude AND booze? That would have been even funnier.
He went so far beyond Al Gore. It was painful to watch - not to mention embarrassing for the country. He came across as a low class street urchin.
so true- they are a bunch of brats and proud of it-
also there is something unnerving about a brat with dentures...
Suzy
I was waiting for Biden to cross his eyes and push out his bottom dentures for the grand finale.
I have several teenage firebugs at home ... while we still have a home ...
At least if they burn it down, I won’t have to clean.
I heard a short exchange between the two men on the radio. Biden is such a loser. As an old politician, he should know debating format, but if you think that, you’d be wrong.
Thank you for your concise and intelligent assessment of the debate.
Thank you pookie. :)
HAD to take a road trip into the heart of demented hell, Democrat Underground. They LOVED it, of course. 20 threads, all singing the praises of a maniacal, funeral-situation-laughing, interrupting, rude, condesending, bullying a&&wipe.
The hobble with the wobble and the gang ‘hit it’????
Biden showed he's positively deranged .......or drunk!
If Hillary reminds every man of his ex-wife, Joe Biden reminds every woman of her boorish ahd overbearing ex-husband.
It's all in the visuals. It's why we have emoticons in messages, because just the words don't really convey the entire truth of what is being said.
Biden was so incredibly disrespectful last night - liberals run on feelings, and my guess is he turned a lot of women off last night.
Brilliant!
I’ve rarely met committed liberals who were truly polite, non-self absorbed people. I’m sure there must be at least a couple but I haven’t met them.
Most of them have swallowed the current PC idea that they are at the center of their own universe wholeheartedly. And they are mostly concerned with what everyone should owe them, more than anything or anyone else.
Why is nobody discussing the fact that Biden blamed the Intelligence community for the string of lies re the four murders at our embassy? A shameless lie, and everyone know it.
I’ll bet the CIA, etc., aren’t too happy with the White House this morning, being thrown under the bus and all.
“Biden was rude and condescending throughout the debate, and demonstrated flashes of anger consistently through the debate.”
As Peter Johnson said on FNC, Biden has no impulse control. Not a good quality for someone who could be Commander In Chief one day.
“If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet.” Proverbs 29:9
“this is the abusive man they dated and dumped.”
Even worse, “the abusive man they MARRIED and dumped.” I’ve been there and done that, so his browbeating demeanor severely creeped me out.
The strategy was actually good, but the actor overplayed his part. The White House knew they had to energize their supporters after Obama flopped so badly, but that in itself was half the problem since the focus should have been on winning undecideds rather than securing their base.
To that end though, Biden succeeded with his histrionics. Most of the hardcore lefties (like Chris Matthews and the folks at DU) loved it.
But ultimately he failed. In large part because Ryan kept his composure and so the contrast between them was striking: Biden looking both like a bully (constantly interrupting) and a clown (constantly laughing), while Ryan came across as unruffled by the rudeness of his opponent and someone who sincerely wants to help get the country going again rather than treating this as a game.
More than that Biden may have damaged one of few remaining things that his ticket has going for them - the likeability factor.
