Wisconsin school district has ordered a joint public-private school football team to change its logo in the middle of the season after a lone parent said the inclusion of a bishops hat and cross was a violation of the U.S. Constitution.
Martin Lexmond, superintendent of the Shorewood School District, told Fox News that he made the decision to remove the logos after consulting with the school board.
It just didnt occur to anybody that there might be questions about it, he said. A parent last week raised the question asking if this was a violation of separation of church and state.
The school district has a unique partnership with a Messmer, private Roman Catholic high school. In 2000 the two small schools joined forces to create a football co-op.
Bob Smith, president of the Catholic school, told WTMJ that he was not happy about the decision and said it is hurtful for the kids.
Its going to be hurtful for the kid who designed the logo..its going to be hurtful for the team, he told the radio station.

Public-Private Partnerships are always a bad idea
The REAL problem is a legal system that can cause a school district to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars defending themselves from this nonsense. Even if in the end they prevail.
We desperately need LOSER PAYS in our tort system.

I find “Education Administrators” are often the most narrow-minded, rigid people I have met.
Its because they are basically bureaucrats.
It is NOT contrary to the Constitution. They should take it to the Supremes.

It doesn't.
This notion is based on a letter from Thomas Jefferson.
We have come a long way (in the wrong direction, I believe) from the simple language: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion...” (never mind the “Nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof” part).
No act by Congress
No law passed
No establishment of religion
Other than that, I can see the violation./sarc

Oh, for shit’s sake, Shorewood, GROW UP!

We were guaranteed, “Freedom of Religion” NOT “Freedom FROM Religion” but the smarmy lawyers of ACLU ilk have distorted that guarantee such that it is now a weapon against us and WE ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN.

I’ll go out on a limb a wager this lone wolf parent doesn’t even have ties to this school. Probably just some malcontent stirring up trouble. Why should the MAJORITY constantly be forced into giving in to the MINORITY? I’d tell this prick the cross stays and if you don;t like it, pound sand. Further, if the cross truly offends you, then you are forbidden to use the letter “t” in all of your writings. The “T” looks like a cross so if the cross offends you, stop using the letter “t”.
Tyranny by the individual against the majority. The proper response by the school to this “parent” should have been GFY.
