'The Dozen Most Overrated Black People'
The American Spectator ^ | October 10, 2012 | Ross Kaminsky

Posted on 10/10/2012 4:23:33 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

"The Dozen Most Overrated Black People": Can you imagine if I (or any other columnist) actually wrote an article with this title and subject?

....So what to make of Columbia University Associate Professor Marc Lamont Hill's article.....entitled "The 15 Most Overrated White People".....

......This cannot remain acceptable in America -- by which I do not mean that Hill should not be heard, but rather than he should not be heard without the challenges he so richly deserves.

The media and Columbia University do the nation a disservice by giving this transparently racist pseudo-intellectual an uncontested platform from which to further divide the nation and harm American education at all levels. While one would hope that our fellow citizens are smart enough to see through Mr. Hill, to see how his words rip off our nation's slowly healing race scabs, I am skeptical, particularly with the general lack of skeptical voices questioning Hill's rhetoric, motivation, and destructive impact.

Other than asking Hill about Iran, Bill O'Reilly is better than his usual populist self when it comes to his occasional debates with Hill, standing up against the race-hustler's baseless charges of congenital racism among non-liberal whites. Even after Fox News "fired" Hill in 2009 for his support of two convicted cop-killers, O'Reilly had him back on the air, including again this year.

Yet the fact that so-called "conservative" O'Reilly has given so much airtime to the race-conspiracy-minded Hill was lost on equally race-minded Ebony magazine interviewer.....who... framed a question, without a trace of irony, thus: "Your TV career began and flourished at Fox, who are notorious for their bias."

If Mark Lamont Hill thinks writing about "overrated white people" is funny, that says a lot about the man. If he was serious, it says even more.....

I think they’re overrated. I doubt I’m the only one. Throw in Tyler Perry too.

My list of the 15 most overrated black people, which I posted on an earlier thread. Later, I decided to add Harry Belafonte, who somehow retains his celebrity status despite not having had a hit record since 1957.
W. E. B Du Bois
Martin Luther King
Paul Robeson
Barack H. Obama
Henry Louis Gates
Jesse Jackson
Langston Hughes
Malcolm X
Ron Karenga
Eldrick “Tiger” Woods
LeRoi Jones
H. Rap Brown
Elijah Muhammad
Snoop Doggie Dog
Michael Jackson

That was funny because when I saw the headline; Marc Lamont Hill was the first who sprang to mind, quickly followed by Jackson, Sharpton, and Obama.

You are being unfair to Tiger Woods. He actually was a pretty decent golfer.

More from the OpEd:

.......”Although the article’s title sounds like something preceding a bit of faux-racist satire, Hill’s list, which includes politicians, entertainers, athletes, and “President Obama’s economic team” seems serious, almost bitter, right from its introduction which concludes: “Of course, this list is not exhaustive, as there are countless other White people who are equally underwhelming.”

Speaking of “countless”: Hill’s list of the 15 most overrated white people includes 16 entries (some of which are actually groups rather than individual people).........”

I have a pet theory - which is that obamugabe benefited from a more than causal association in peoples’ minds with Woods.

When obamugabe first burst on the scene Woods was at the zenith of his popularity and I think there was almost a subliminal transference of adulation from Woods to Zero. Once the bloom came off the Woods rose, many regular people began to see that Zero too had feet of clay.

What we are seeing in the likes of Barack Obama, Marc Lamont Hill, Tavis Smiley, Cornel West, Michelle Obama, and on and on, are the fruits of Affirmative Action preferences coming to bear. The rot and stench are unmistakeable, and now - in the Age of Obama - they are destroying the USA from the inside.

The intellectualization of racism and the sense of superiority it is spawned from were hallmarks of the Nazis. Professor Li and people who share her “thesis” scare me.

How about Whites for Romney? Could you imagine the uproar?

These people are focused on COLOR and nothing else. It’s AWFUL.

Tell him that “Blacks for Obama” is JUST AS RACIST and JUST AS OFFENSIVE as a group called “WHITES FOR ROMNEY” would be

I see the same sort of nonsense. But to take a geopolitical view this sort of stuff goes on everywhere. Sunnis were for Saddam Hussein. Right now the alawites are for Assad in Syria. The Huttu/Tutsi thing is still going on in Rwanda and its neighboring countries. And then you come to the Balkans.

Race/Religion/Ethnicity/Tribe has always played a large role in politics. It also tends to happen that when times are good differences are overlooked as everyone is either getting rich or at least getting by together. When times are bad the differences come to the fore.
