NBC tells Obama not to use footage

In a letter sent Friday night to Obama campaign manager Jim Messina, NBC told the Obama campaign to cease using network footage in a new 30-second spot, released shortly after Wednesdays debate, in which Andrea Mitchell is shown on air citing an independent, stating that Mitt Romneys tax plan would cost $4.8 trillion over 10 years, a source said.

NBC News has not granted any campaign permission to use our news material. As is our practice, we have requested that the Obama campaign refrain from using NBC News material in this and future advertisements, the network said in a statement.

NBC brass and legal team don’t have the sense to be embarrassed that their reporters and on-air talent would say things on the air that could be used in a positive manner by Obama in an ad.
Evidently the TV stations in Ohio didn’t get the letter ... I saw this ad multiple times on Saturday and twice already this morning.
Even more interesting was the ad that followed, apparently msnbc has a new slogan....."Leaning Forward".
That is amazingly close to the obama campaign slogan, Forward. I find that more damning then a clip of andrea mitchell- greenspan.
I forgot to add, this was in indianapolis on the nbc affiliate WTHR.
I agree - but GE sold there stake over six months ago I think to Comcast....
“Comcast is the enemy.”
I hope not.... but we will see if they are up to the task of unwinding all the liberal bias put in place by GEs ownership.
I’m assuming that someday folks over there want to start making money.
Just as Mitt told Zero that he is not entitled to his own facts, NBC is telling Zero to use his own lies...
Fox just played this very ad in Raleigh, I saw it during the Chris Wallace Sunday show.
god that woman in the blonde hair looks pissed at Sarah!
I have seen this ad THREE times in the last HOUR on fox in Raleigh.
I’m in Atlantic city and saw the ad. Lol.
Mitchell really looks pissed in that picture, I would say jealous.
I’ve seen it at least twice since I first saw this posting.......once on the NBC affiliate and once on CBS affiliate (Norfolk/Virginia Beach market)
It’s on the internet and it’s been running on TV for how many days now?
Nice shot, Politco. Citing an "independent" what? Why not just call it for what it was? The Obama campaign and most if not all of the major news organizations, to include the one Andrea Mitchell is working for, are quoting a bogus, completely made up source and are making it sound legit.
NBC took a week to issue this cease and desist?
MSM wanting to back a winner.
The Republicans need to threaten the MSM to quit being so incredibly biased and partisan.
The only effective threat the Republicans can make to the media is to restore the FCCs Broadcast Ownership Rules (1975).
FCC rules banned cross-ownership by a single entity of a daily newspaper and television or radio broadcast station operating in the same local market.
However, congress could update and expand on this to include the Internet, book and magazine publishing, movies and theaters, etc. Importantly, they could do so only if the entity owned a broadcast system, so was under the jurisdiction of the FCC. They should especially include network providers.
In effect, this would bust up the big six media companies in the US: NBCUniversal (Comcast /GE), The Walt Disney Company, News Corporation, Time Warner, Viacom, and CBS Corporation.
They could broadcast anything they wanted to say under FCC jurisdiction, but they could do monopolize all media, as they do today.
This goes beyond politics, because these media companies are effectively stifling free speech in all things, wiping out independent book, newspaper and magazine publishers, which are replaced with generic crap and computer generated news. Books that are just mulch, containing little that is original or intelligent.
Pick up most newspapers in the US today, and you will read almost identical stories put out by the wire services. Sterile, useless things.
So true, and 69 million can easily be conned.
I really think the marketplace is starting to take care of the established and biased media for us.
Most major newspapers are going out of business. The networks are losing viewers by the millions each year. Most people under the age of 25 have no idea what “Time” and “Newsweek” are.
What I would like to see changed is we do need another conservative cable network to compete with Fox. Someone has to step up and invest the money there.
