.....We could spend hours quoting disparaging reviews of Obama's performances from journalists who were never as head-over-heels as Matthews and Sullivan, but we like to pretend as if we have space constraints, so we'll just take one representative example,...Tunku Varadarajan writes: "My God, in the four years that we've seen him in the White House, I don't think we've ever seen the president so flaccid, so dull-brained, so jejune, so shifty, so downcast."
This columnist has to disagree. Obama's lame performance last night seemed typical to us. We can think of a few occasions in which we've seen the president less flaccid, less dull-brained, less jejune, less shifty, less downcast. But only a few.
But these qualities--or, to put it another way, this lack of quality--was harder than usual to miss last night because of the contrast with the highly effectual Romney. One reason it came as such a shock to Obama is that it was the first time in his career that he shared a debate stage with a serious opponent.
...... The test he failed last night is one to which he had never been put.
But the journalists who are pointing the finger at Obama have three fingers pointed back at themselves. Instead of challenging the president, the press corps--with a few honorable exceptions, like ABC's Jake Tapper and the guys from Univision--have spent the past four-plus years puffing him up and making excuses for him. The American Spectator's Jeffrey Lord explains:
>>>"The great James Taranto...long ago posited what is called the "Taranto Principle." In short, it means that the liberal media so coddles liberal politicians that they have no idea how to cope outside that liberal media bubble...
Barack Obama has been so totally coddled by the liberal media that he looked absolutely shell-shocked in this debate. Stunned,unhappy,angry,sour--and at some points genuinely incoherent..........."<<<<<

Barack Obama has been so totally coddled by the liberal media that he looked absolutely shell-shocked in this debate. Stunned, unhappy, angry, sour--and at some points genuinely incoherent....
It reminds me of how progressives have built their base, one hapless dependent at a time. Obama was the face of his constituency - what the Left wants America to be, "Stunned, unhappy, angry, sour,.... genuinely incoherent," incapable of coping and DEPENDENT on Them.
he did look really small
Okay, okay, let's feel the love for Jake Tapper, the Univision interviewers about "Fast & Furious" (good job, again), and a shout-out to the American Spectator for quoting .... James Taranto.
So, James, WSJ editors -- how about it? How about a shout out to people who had it right all along, like Rush Limbaugh, Mike Savage, and Mark Levin? Michelle Malkin and Mona Charen? What? You don't invite them to your feasting-table? After they brought the broccoli and the veal piccata and laid out the flatware and linens?
Ingrates. Those guys slaved in the trenches and polished your carving knives for four years .... and you can't even say a good word for them in your hour of deliverance.
Indeed!!!! We (thanks to the like of Rush, Levin, Palin and others) have ALWAYS known he was an empty suit. I have no sympathy for the supporters who are in utter shock for the first time seeing what we have always known.
This media is just as complicit in our country’s undoing as fearless leader himself. and they need to be turned out to pasture.
The truth about the last four years is worth repeating, except I want to say it louder!
...journalists who are pointing the finger at Obama have three fingers pointed back at themselves. Instead of challenging the president, the press corps...have spent the past four-plus years puffing him up and making excuses for him.
The love affair may be hitting the rocks and I have no sympathy for any of the jilted parties.
“”My God, in the four years that we’ve seen him in the White House, I don’t think we’ve ever seen the president so flaccid, so dull-brained, so jejune, so shifty, so downcast.””
Not difficult to understand - he has never been publicly challenged by the unbiased media or the fluffy talk show hosts. Unrestrained, he panders to his supporters and lectures other audiences. Much like what he is doing now. He didn’t have the courage to insult Mitt Romney to his face - so he is spinning his hatred at campaign events. No-one to challenge his lies, lack of dignity and decency.
How could you forget Sean Hannity?
She gave some excuse about lighting, but I'm betting that if someone had tracked his BP, his stress and fury at being actually questioned without being fed the answers would have been one click short of a anger management episode.
Odd that this wasn't noted...
Spot on.
The liberals and Obama’s radical protectors put him on his own plantatation. He has no idea how to behave or defend himself off of the plantation.
“The love affair may be hitting the rocks . . “
Yep. Chrissy Matthews tingle down the leg was just Obama peeing on his leg and telling him it was raining . . . now Chrissy feels betrayed.
He was very, very angry. Did you see the photo of him and his lovely wife right afterwards? She was truly furious!
Lefties, you set up a phony, groom him, build his image, protect him, praise and adore him, never question him, never confront him, never criticize him, ...
And then, one day, you have to push him out in the real world and BLAM...
You find out he is still just a phony.
And then you get angry??
Brilliant!
The love affair may be hitting the rocks and I have no sympathy for any of the jilted parties.
You summed up what others have been saying with several paragraphs. LOL. Good one.
