The Barack Obama who stood on the debate stage in Denver Wednesday night was virtually unrecognizable to the person who swept to victory in 2008 or even the man who had built a narrow-but-clear edge in the 2012 race. In the wake of the debate, Democrats conceded that former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney had dominated the proceedings and quickly moved on to a deeper and harder to answer question: What the hell was wrong with the president?
Theories abound up to an including that Obama, who had done debate prep in Las Vegas, struggled to adjust to Denvers altitude. (Not kidding. That is a theory espoused by none other than former Vice President Al Gore.)
Below we take on a few of the likeliest reasons for Obamas out-of-character performance culled from conversations with Democratic strategists and our own observations. * Hes not used to being challenged: For all of the chatter that President Obama loves to surround himself with people willing to disagree with him, the truth of the matter is that being the leader of the free world means that what you say goes pretty much all the time. And, being challenged by staff no matter how senior those staff might be is not the same thing as being directly confronted by someone at your level and who wants your job.

“mormons can have caffeine ...”
That NEW to LDS. Romney would have grown up when caffeine wasn’t allowed, and most older LSD just never made the switch when it became legal. (as a total java junkie, I think it’s a good idea)
That may be true with Romney, I don’t know.
My uncle a mormon bishop popped Excedrin because it has caffeine but that started in the mid ‘70s.
I know lots of non mormon people who avoid caffeine, so who knows.
No substance in his thoughts to make up for the absence of a teleprompter.
I always heard he was a master debator.

I think he once worked a while one Summer on a charter fishing boat in Hawaii. That’s where he learned to be a master baiter.
Thank you Mam!!!

Stupid. And arrogant.
A deadly combination...
And he won't be getting ready. He's too lazy, too far behind the curve, and too stupid.
Their lividness that Lehrer remained passive and didn't do anything to help this ongoing affirmative action narrative that is the life of Barack Obama is understandable: take away something from someone that they've grown accustomed to having, and they protest.
Sununu had it right: Obama is lazy. He's never had to work for anything, and he's never lost. Others have always carried him.
What's new this time is, for perhaps the first time in his life, he must take responsibility.
Maybe 0 can't write.
We know he can't keep dates straight, either (like in England).
1. George H.W. Bush (Dana Carvey) was asked a question by a reporter (Jan Hooks) which he answered with "Stay the course, a thousand points of lights." Hooks then says "You have another minute and 30 seconds. Bush/Carvey repeats "To summarize, stay the course, a thousand points of light." Hooks says "You still have another minute." And on it goes.
2. Al Gore (Darryl Hammond) huffs and puffs, interrupts, and repeatedly says "lockbox." My favorite line was when the moderator (Chris Parnell) asks a question of George W. Bush (Will Ferrell) and Gore/Hammond says "I'd like to answer that question as if it were directed to me."
I'd think that a safe mocking of Obama on Saturday will be his quibbling with Jim Lehrer over his remaining 5 seconds.

Amen!
His first debates were with McCain who said he was a nice guy and handed him the election. The media protected him all these long destructive 4 years and now he has dirt under his nails and Romney to debate. How can he defend his record and his lies? How can he say he can do great things when he has destroyed so much for 4 years? All he can do is stand there and hang his head and toss out a few old worn out lines.
nobama is a loser community organizer. nobama is an affirmative action equal opportunity fraud. nobama should be in prison.
The bill included funding for the troops in Iraq, so essentially the radical Barack Obama trumped the compassionate Barack Obama (or he was so badly read up on the issue that he didn’t know that the aid for NO was included). I think the speech was in part to protect himself from possible backlash of his stand among the black community.
That makes sense. Thanks!
As John Sununnu said on MSNBC today “Obama is lazy and detached.”
Obama is like the welfare cheat who knows 1001 ways to game the system. He’s “smart” in a calculating, scheming type of way, but because his every brain cell is oriented toward “Me Me Me, I I I”, he’s as dumb as a stump and easily manipulated.
And like the lazy cheats who pride themselves over the amount on their EBT cards or the minutes on their Obamaphones or the loot they can steal from the minimart or the mall, Obama the self-centered “genius” is enslaved in chains of bondage by his enormous ego, greed, and sociopathic detachment from the rights of others. IOW, what a dumbazz, what a maroon.
Hopefully this election cycle, we can have the debate about how Marxism and its ideological ilk (socialism, communism, etc.) are false, corrosive philosophies which destroy both freedom and prosperity.
Romney may be an imperfect messenger, but he's off to a great start with this debate. Maybe enough Americans can be awakened to the fact that authoritarian collectivism and welfare state dependency are fundamentally incompatible with core American values and ideals, and destructive to prosperity as well.
Who'd a thunk it?
We heard it from the LSM, the same people that told us Reagan was a buffoon and and Bush II was a dummy.
He is quick with the quips and "outline's", but when you can't speak to a group of children without TOTUS, there is a problem. I will also admit that he can read a great speech, but look at some of Reagan's stuff on you-tube, that man was an orator/ communicator.
