Missouri's Akin, left for dead, on comeback trail
Washington Examiner ^ | 10/03/2012 | Paul Bedard

Missouri Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin, thrown under the bus by Karl Rove and the Washington GOP establishment for his "legitimate rape" comment, is making a strong comeback in the polls and is now better-liked than incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill.

Five weeks after making the comments that at the time seemed career-ending, Rasmussen Reports has Akin six points behind McCaskill, 51 percent to 45 percent. That result shows an improvement over past polls, some that had him behind by 10 points. And among those "certain to vote," he trails McCaskill by just four points, said Rasmussen.

More surprising is that he is better-liked than McCaskill, found Rasmussen. Some 47 percent of likely Missouri voters have a favorable view of Akin, with 30 percent in the "very favorable" category. Some 41 percent view McCaskill favorably, with just 14 percent "very favorable."

The uptick in the polls comes as outside groups are pouring volunteers and money into Akin's campaign. The Family Research Council, for example, told Secrets that they plan to host a week-long bus tour through Missouri to energize Evangelical and Catholic voters for Akin, long opposed to abortion.

If we are FORCED to vote for Romney a nasty candidate, why can’t the Republicans in Missouri be FORCED to vote for a good man named Akin. Doesn’t make sense to me one bit. I thought this was the most important election of our lives (again). If that is the case than I thing getting as many Senate seats should be paramount and not playing nonsense games with a great conservative who said something right but in the wrong manner.

I don’t think there is any choice now. It’s either Akin, who is a bit of a backwoods oddball - yet a decent man, or the far left, tax cheat Air Claire.

I agree with you.

I think Akin's going to win it.

This man never should have been condemned for his unfortunate remark.
The important thing was to get rid of that witch.

Those numbers will tell the tale. Akin will win this race.

So, he said something stupid. Just look at the crap the Democrats get away with and nobody complains.
This guy didn’t run and hide when the MSM and both the Republicans and Democrats abused him to try to force him to quit. This guy has more spinal courage than most of the spineless cowards in Washington.

Rasmussen just put McCaskill at 51% and Aikin at 45%. This is a race the GOP should be up by 10. Even I wouldn’t vote for Akin and I dearly want a GOP Senate.

What a disaster.

If nothing else, Akin has proved he doesn’t have a spine made of jelly like Boner and McConkell.

FYI..Article just posted at RollCall ( and not worth reading):

"Missouri Voters want a GOP Led Senate; but Prefer McCaskill over Akin"

Think they're starting to read the tea (party) leaves?

Todd Akin will win.

And, when he is a Senator, he will become a conservative hero like Jim DeMint.

I continue to send money to the Akin campaign. I urge others to do the same.

Atkin has ensured they will only be allowed to vote for him and he will lose.

Failing to grasp how repugnant and ill informed Akins comments were is exactly why the GOP loses far more elections than it should.

Thank God! Weak in the knee republicants and their sycophants tossed this man to the side for 1 bad comment and bad press! Shame on them. If Akin fails, it is because republicants failed!

I don’t. I was driving to work this morning and on pops a radio ad for Claire. The centerpiece of that ad was a tape of Akin saying “if its a legitimate rape, the female body has ways of shutting that down”. This was on the pop music station, to reach people who haven’t been paying attention. The only way he could win is if he could unsay those words. Hope he wins, but don’t bet on it.

I fail to grasp why there are so many are making ignorant, drama queen noise like that.

ill informed?! There are scientific studies that backs up the claim that when a women is under extreme stress, that extreme stress interferes with her ability to conceive. This is not rocket science and makes perfect sense. Many have noted this was taught in medical school for many years. What is so heard to believe about it being potentially true?

Repugnant?! It is obvious he meant "forcible rape", as opposed to "one night stand, morning after regret" claims of rape (NOT A LEGITIMATE RAPE) or statutory rape of a 17 year old girl in the back seat of a car by her 18 year old boy friend. Neither of those would produce the extreme stress that could prevent conception.
