Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says he would honor temporary work permits for young illegal immigrants who were allowed to stay in the U.S. because of an executive order signed this summer by President Barack Obama. Romney told The Denver Post, in an interview appearing in Tuesday's edition, that people who are able to earn the two-year visas to stay and work wouldn't see them revoked under a Romney administration. "The people who have received the special visa that the president has put in place, which is a two-year visa, should expect that the visa would continue to be valid. I'm not going to take something that they've purchased," Romney told the Post, promising to put a comprehensive immigration reform plan into place before those visas expire. In June, Obama issued an executive order that allows some young illegal immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children to avoid deportation. Romney criticized Obama for circumventing Congress to make the change a few months before the presidential election. During the Republican presidential primary, Romney said he would veto legislation to provide a path to citizenship for some of the young people who benefited from Obama's executive order.

There’s absolutely no reason to think the visas will be temporary. If they do actually expire they’ll just ignore them like the millions of others.

God Help Us.
Like I say, the Big Money’s not going to allow a real candidate access to that billion dollars of PR money they’re spending this election cycle.
The system’s circling the drain.
But the idea of selling work permits or even citizenship isn't a bad idea - and the latter is already in place via business investment and real estate investement visas.
Nonetheless, Mitt went way out on a branch in favor of enforcement and not giving a path to citizenship for folks who broke the law, and I look forward to seeing his plan.
0bambi dark or 0bambi light, what’’a the difference. Once again, the Republicrats have made sure that the people have no choice, except more socialism, in a presidential election.
0bambi, McLame and Romoron agree on amnesty; they agree n abortion; they agree on continued deficits; they agree on more regulations; they agree on DeathCare. What’s the difference?

Absolutely nothing! Some of us worked hard to come the right way, RMoney. Thanks for nothing!
They are already in the business of selling citizenship. Do you know of anyone personally who has gone through the system? If so, just ask them about all of the fees, including those to immigration attorneys. Whenever see an immigration attorney on a talk show as an expert, all I see is an advertisement for him.
So Romney is saying he agrees with the abuse of power this executive order constitutes. He agrees the president should not be limited by congress or the rule of law.
Hey Romney, which laws am I allowed to break with impunity? Why don’t we start with speed laws. Everyone breaks them. Why should I be punished if I get caught?
Wow. Didn’t see THAT coming! s/
Night & Day sir, Night & Day. :)
Romney betrays his base a month before his election. I think his advisers don’t want him to win. That or they can’t count. None of them give a wit for the Constitution or rule of law.
I would be interested in knowing how two people can agree on the substantive issues be as different as “night and day”. It would seem to me - and to most thinkjing people - that to be as different as “night and day”, the two would have to disagree, in fact, rather than in words.
In politics, words mean, to paraphrase Humpty Dumpty in Alice in Wonderland: just what politicians choose it to mean neither more nor less. And whenever and wherever they choose.
Words do mean things, they are here for all to read in black and white.
This is a week old but I missed it then, just heard about it this weekend.
Looks like the optimistic view is that he just wont renew them after they expire, and he still gets to throw this one at Hispanic voters to show his compassion.
He was the toughest on illegals in the primary.
” Looks like the optimistic view is that he just wont renew them after they expire, “
I smell a flaming BUSH.
What is pathetic is that there are voters who STILL actually think that the stuff candidates like O+R and R+B say have something to do with what they would do if election.
“Fool me once shame on you, ....fool me 20X then I must be very stupid”
The debates are show, much like 'Dancing with the Stars"
