The stain of cheating spread unchecked across 44 Atlanta schools before the state finally stepped in and cleaned it up. But across the country, oversight remains so haphazard that most states cannot guarantee the integrity of their standardized tests, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has found.
Poor oversight means that cheating scandals in other states are inevitable. It also undermines a national education policy built on test scores, which the states and local districts use to fire teachers, close schools and direct millions of dollars in funding.
The AJCs survey of the 50 state education departments found that many states do not use basic test security measures designed to stop cheating on tests. And most states make almost no attempt to screen test results for irregularities.

The funny thing is that schools need to show increases in test scores. If they cheat one year they’ll have to cheat even more the next year to prevent a sudden drop in scores. I guess these Einsteins haven’t figured that out.

When this crap started back in the nineties, when my child was in middle school, I told people at the PTA and band parents meetings this kind of stuff would happen. Very few believed me........
Really won’t make a difference after a while. Obama has already started on the path to eliminating standardized testing mandated by No Child Left Behind doing the teachers’ unions bidding. Soon there will be no standardized tests to cheat on.
And yet people question a conspiracy theory were unelected Democrat public workers would falsified records to show Obama IS eligible for the US Presidency.
Union thugary has resulted in the government employees we now have with no checks or balances.
How do we know you’re not teaching the test???
Since the test should cover the material in question, the teacher should always be teaching 'the test'.
To not do so would be wrong.
Agreed, buy there is covering the material and there is teaching the test. IMHO using standardized tests to determine success is fraught with problems. I know too many students that are brilliant on essay questions but are totally destroyed by the K type. One size does not fit all. We still are not looking at the quality of the material we are only examining the success of the machinist. Poor material makes poor products unless your a politician looking to praise those producing poor starting materials so that you can give them something to vote for you. Obamaphones are a good example. A machinist polishing up the turd he was provided as starting material, to make it look like steel, is only carrying on the process started by others. The machinist in many if not most cases can’t transmute lead into gold. A good alloy is possible if you are given good metals.
