Romney's Challenge: He Is Already the Incumbent
Brietbart ^ | 9/30/12 | Joel B. Pollak

Posted on 09/30/2012 7:34:11 AM PDT by Evil Slayer

Mitt Romney is about as close to defeating President Barack Obama as any Republican could have hoped to be. The polls--if you believe them--show him slightly or significantly behind, but within striking distance. The challenge he faces is unique: he is acting, and is being treated as, the incumbent rather than the insurgent. In effect, "President" Romney has been in office since mid-August, with none of the power but all of the responsibility.

It was President Romney, not Obama, who set aside time to visit victims of Hurricane Isaac. It was President Romney, not Obama, who reacted swiftly to the attacks on our embassies by standing up for American freedom. It was President Romney, not Obama, who took on the entitlements crisis head-on by adopting many of Paul Ryan’s ideas. It was President Romney, not Obama, who laid out a practical plan for the housing crisis.

The media have also treated Romney as the incumbent, pouncing on every word and gesture, seizing on every mistake and inventing errors where none exist. Romney’s so-called “gaffes” have one thing in common: they are all statements of fact. He is being held to a presidential standard--for presidents should know better than to tell all--while Obama’s outright lies to the nation (on Libya, the debt, etc.) are ignored by the media.

Obama’s failures as the actual incumbent are also passed over--or spun into positives. We reached 2,000 dead in Afghanistan? Hey, Obama “ended the war.” Unemployment still above 8 percent? Oh, that jobs report was “better than expected.” We were attacked by Al Qaeda on 9/11, and Obama lied about it? Don’t worry, “bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive.” Growth down to 1.3%? Say--“No one could have done it better.”

Maybe this crazy idea will take hold and someone other than Breitbart will report on it.

There is something to this. But you know the good news? I could be totally delusional, but I'm starting to think that a very large number of people have already decided they hate this guy and don't care who has the R next to his name. They're ready for a change.

Pollsters (even Ras) continue to jimmy polls and oversample Ds, but the OH absentee voting spreadsheet---if it holds up---is telling a totally different story. If FL and NC and PA reports start echoing this, the election is already over. And Romney will actually BE the incumbent.

These little tid bits need to be hammered home in the debates in a away that doesn’t make Romney look like he’s tooting his own horn. Simply point out the ludicrous behavior of choosing Vegas over Libya etc!!

And Obama has never been an incumbent that im aware of. Maybe once, in an unopposed kiddie race in Illinois, where he ran as the black democrat,, open socialist, in Chicago. Victory was utterly assured.

In 2008, EVERY debate he had was easy, he had no record to defend. He could be “for” anything, and “against” anything.Remember when he assailed Hillary for wanting single payer national health care? Bush for being “unpatriotic” for running a deficit of 450 Billion? How he was going to close Gitmo? Stop the war? Make the world like us again?

This is the first debate and reace, were he has to defend an actual record. The Telemundo interview is the key here. “You promised amnesty, had complete control of the legislative processs for your first two years,,,,and didn’t deliver”.
He’s toast.

There is much work to do. Romney needs to talk details of his plans. I dont want to hear him say one more time that he knows what to do. Please tell us what that is!!!

Good plan of how Romney could turn things around can be found here.

#IncumbentMittRomney 112 Days until the Chair is Full. #IncumbentMittRomney speaking in ____today. etc, etc.

I believe this. Romney is being subjected to much more scrutiny and questioning than anything that skidmark Obama could hope to be. Obama gets a pass because he is an incompetent socialist black, period. The very first black President. He will likely be the last if the truth be told.

Blacks, liberals and guilt-ridden whites have traded what blacks like to refer as “400 years of slavery and oppression” for party time at the White House with Michelle acting like Marie Antoinette, and her husband playing Mussolini. You got higher unemployment, lower-valued houses, a gold-plated expensive NHS, and a friggin Obama phone!..... You people should be sorely ashamed.

Today, I caught that son of a bitch Chris Wallace grilling Paul Ryan like he was Nixon for cripes sake. The rabid liberal SOB and son to Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes has no damned business asking ANYTHING of ANYONE. Chris, why don’t you grill Obama like that? Screw You. Screw Fox for employing you, you toad.

I think this also. Like you say, maybe we’re delusional, but even given all the media help Obama is getting, people know what is in front of their faces. I don’t see how anyone other than a committed dem partisan can think Obama deserves another 4 years.

As to the polls, almost ALL of them show Romney winning the Independents. If he wins the Is and the Rs turn out in force I don’t really see how he loses. I don’t even say this as a booster, I just don’t see how it could happen.

Huh? I don’t see this at all. He is being treated as the evil, robotic rich white guy. Period.

Hopefully Zer0 will show for a debate. I wouldn't put it past him to cancel because of some crises he invents. The AWOL illegal WH occupant does not care what the voters think. He will take the hit by being an empty chair rather than go up against Romney and totally have his record exposed in front of the world. I expect even Bibi has figured this out and doesn't want to start nuking Iran until the election campaign has run its course. An Israel/Iran conflict is all Zer0 needs to turn down the debates so he can look presidential and say he has more important things to do.

I really hope that Romney is able to overcome the Media propaganda and hold Obama accountable for the damage he has done to the country the past 4 years.

That’s what I’m consistently seeing in reader comments that follow many news stories posted on various web sites and blogs, not all of which are conservatively oriented. A large number of people are sick and tired of Obama’s arrogance, dissembling and failures.

Well, how could obama be the incumbent if he never showed up to do the job of defending the Constitution to begin with?!?

Obama is the “post American” president. He apologizes and retract our military and economic power worldwide. At home he deficit spends handouts to the masses as we head to third world status.

Traditional judgments of competency don’t apply to Obama. He’s the “cool (half) black guy” brainwashed whites can vote for to reduce guilt.

But watch if Romney is hard hitting and makes Obama look like a fool the media will go on how “Romney is a bully and he is picking on the Black man”. Ok I don’t know about the racial aspect but you know they are going to spin it so as to make Romney lose or turn him into the biggest bully ever. “Romney was a bully in high school and he still is a bully”, that will be the mantra.

If the economy is in the toilet, and polls show the challenger leading the incumbent with Independent voters, it’s only logical that A)turnout among Independents will be high, and B) a fair amount of Democrats will cross party lines.

Now Rasmussen will argue that, according to his polls, there are just as many Democrats who plan on voting for Obama as there are Republicans who plan on voting for Romney. So therefore, according to his numbers, the amount of Independents who vote for Romney won’t be enough to counter this so called turn out advantage that Democrats have over Republicans.

If that’s what Rasmussen’s polls are telling him, then I can’t blame him for sticking with his formula. The point is, the results he’s coming up with defy logic.

Now here’s the thing.... many Conservatives believe that the future of the country is on the line with this election. On the other hand, Democrats act like this is just another election, and Obama is leading in the polls because people understand that he did the best job he could with the mess he was handed and Romney’s a greedy 1% vulture.

But the 300 lb. gorilla in the room is the fact that Democrats are not being honest. They know that EVERYTHING is on the line for them, because if the country throws Obama out of office, their 40 year plan to push, push, push the country way, way, way to the Left, which has culminated with Obama’s election, will be in grave danger. If Obama is defeated, and the economy improves significantly under Romney, the Left wing baby boomers and GenXer’s will be back to square one.

This is why I’m so skeptical of the polls. Every Left winger who, over the past 40 years, has risen to a position of power in elected office, government agencies, unions, philanthropic organizations, the churches, NGO’s, the media, the entertainment industry, academia, etc, has all their life’s work on the line in trying to get Obama re-elected, so he can complete his transformation of the USA into a 2nd class power in decline.

So the idea that Scotty Rasmussen alone is completely immune to this kind of pressure seems a little suspect, especially when he’s recently re-weighted his polls.

In the debate as Obama makes more ridiculous promises, I want Mitt to turn to Obama and say, “who the Hell do you think has been president for the last 4 years?”

Then, Mitt should turn to the camera, point out that BO never takes responsibility for anything, and rattle off every excuse Obama has used for 4 years (hannity has them down pat): BO has blamed hurricanes, ATMs, a Japanese nuclear incident, GWB, China, etc — and many more.

RIDICULE this dangerous empty suit.
