THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES IS TRANSMITTING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AS A PUBLIC SERVICE TO U.S. CITIZENS IN THE PHILIPPINES. PLEASE DISSEMINATE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR NEIGHBORHOOD. THANK YOU.
Threat Against American Citizens in Manila
The U.S. Embassy advises American citizens in the Philippines that a threat against American citizens in metropolitan Manila, specifically the Pasay City neighborhood, has been detected by reliable security forces.
This threat remains in effect until October 10, 2012.
In response to the threat, the U.S. Ambassador has ordered an augmented security profile for all U.S. government facilities in Manila.

I wonder what’s significant about that neighborhood.
Maybe Abu Sayaaf.. 0bama’s busy CYA or maybe setting up something big ahead of the election.
We’ll have to E&E to friendly territory: Olangapo City.
what?..this can’t be right....we have freepers living there, commenting here, who say its a paradise there and so much safer than the US....
Wasn’t Terry Nichols a visitor, once or twice, to this neck of the woods?
I lived in Manila in 1997. I’m not sure that much has changed. We practiced constant situational awareness. Non Filipinos were being abducted and held for ransom about every week. I had to hire a nanny so I could walk across the street to the grocery store. Pasay City has been a target forever. I’m sure it’s no news flash for them. We’d have lived there but we had a company paid for condo.
Had talked with one of my children in Australia recently (two or three weeks ago). Was going to the Philippines. Said would be in the tourist areas. Said the interior had become too dangerous. Now I know what was meant. Will discuss further with that child. Told to say away from there if there was danger. Now will be emphatic, but this one has a mind of its own. Will not listen and will go. While discussing it was noted by my child that the activity of moslems in Manila was on the upswing, as it is everywhere.
Oh, and I just remembered, when we went to the Philippines in 1996-7, we initially stayed in a 5 star hotel, on an executive floor that didn’t have direct elevator access for security reasons, and a few weeks earlier had had a terrorist attack in the the lobby that killed a number of people. We could see Pasay City from our windows. Maybe there’s been a lull in the meantime /sarc.
I have no idea as to what it pertains to, but I have never set foot on Luzon, much less Manila.
Sounds like much-ado about nothing.
I know that Manila, like any big city has many hooker areas
that are never safe for foreigners.
>> widespread protests by Muslims against the United States over an anti-Islam film,
Repeatedly brought to their attention by feckless assholes that enjoyed trampling on the 1st Amendment.
Glad to hear you’re ok.
The security threat is linked to the anti-Islam film. Obama’s fault.
The deception by the Obama administration (Benghazi-gate) has further incensed Muslims around the world.
When you are in the company of Negritos you have nothing to fear.
Damn. I hate when kids do that, but we were also young and headstrong once. I only survived my own misadventures because of the firm grounding of my upbringing.
One day that child will have learned better than to take such risks, and will thank you for planting the seeds of good sense.
“Glad to hear youre ok.”

Thank you...I am happy as a clam and feel quite safe on my
Cebu beach, far from the city.
The big cities, Manila, and even Cebu City, can be quite rough for horny expats looking for cheap sex.
There is also Muzie terrorism in the country, but mostly on a small part of Mindanao.
I have yet, in my four years, to see a Muzie here.
When they rebuilt it, did they make it with substantial buildings this time, or is it the same sort of collection of ramshackle buildings Penatubo destroyed the last time?
I told my friend who has lived and worked there ten years. He said this is the most specific and credible threat he has seen while living there. Told his family to avoid the area, and he will be passing through there in a few hours on his way to work.
My son is in Manila training his replacements. Nexus Lexis is moving the entire enterprise there.
