L E B A N O N, Tenn.
A 61-year-old man was shot to death by police while his wife was handcuffed in another room during a drug raid on the wrong house.
Police admitted their mistake, saying faulty information from a drug informant contributed to the death of John Adams Wednesday night. They intended to raid the home next door.
The two officers, 25-year-old Kyle Shedran and 24-year-old Greg Day, were placed on administrative leave with pay.
They need to get rid of those men, boys with toys, said Adams 70-year-old widow, Loraine.
John Adams was watching television when his wife heard pounding on the door. Police claim they identified themselves and wore police jackets. Loraine Adams said she had no indication the men were police.
I thought it was a home invasion. I said Baby, get your gun!, she said, sitting amid friends and relatives gathered at her home to cook and prepare for Sundays funeral.

It was.

Police say her husband fired first with a sawed-off shotgun and they responded.Odds pretty good it wasn't even a short barrel shotgun, just a completely legal PG.

They should face first degree murder charges. There is no definition if negligence that encompasses this sort of act.

Posted earlier but worth repeating. The police have huge powers and with power comes responsibility.

Police Chief Billy Weeks said. Its a very severe mistake, a costly mistake. It makes us look at our own policies and procedures to make sure this never occurs again. He said, however, the two policemen were not at fault. Ummm. Yes, they were. They homeowner was certainly not at the wrong address.

These sonsabitches need to be investigated and somebody needs to be punished with extreme prejudice for this nonsense. It is becoming far too commonplace. Each time this happens, somebody needs to go to prison or be executed. There are NO excuses.

Fine. Chief Billy is the captain of the ship. He takes credit for every success and failure. They failed, it's his responsibility. He should resign if he had any sense of honor.

They intended to raid the home next door.If I'm going into a house with guns ready, I think I want to know if I'm going into the right house.
I wonder if they checked the phone book, or the post office, or anyone else (except their excellent informant) before they chose the wrong house.
After these negligent guys get out of prison, they can start their own company cleaning out the wrong houses for banks foreclosing.
BTW, no dead dog?

Fairly old news as far as FR is concerned. When did ABC news eliminate the dateline? That is problematic.

All accross the country, cops chase/follow cars for hours on end and often break off just so no one gets hurt, but they kick in doors in drug raids to get the evidence before it’s flushed. Yeah, that’s why they kick in the doors.

The police have huge powers and with power comes responsibility.Unfortunately with power also comes sovereign immunity. "Sorry, we screwed up, but you can't even sue us in civil court, let alone file criminal charges. Too bad for you!!"
