The video of an Obama supporter bragging about having an Obama phone has gone viral on the web, but where do these free cell phones come from?
Check your cellphone bill for the line item listed as "Federal Universal Service Charge". I paid $1.87 last month in this unnecessary tax. Reply with your finding.

My service is through AT&T and like the original poster I too pay $ 1.87 a month. That's a mandatory 3 % Federal Tax that I have to pay to support others.
This causes me to wonder how many more MANDIATORY Federal taxes i am paying to support others?
BTW everyone who pays for their cellular/wireless services have to pay this tax - it comes with your service, like or not, want it or not. That you the Federal Government.

Let’s not stir up the underclass with a reason to vote before the November election. But immediately thereafter, all conservatives need to deluge their “representatives” with demands that the Federal Universal Service Charge be terminated immediately. Not reduced, not redirected — it must be 100% ended, with no replacement funding for “ObamaPhones”, etc. This illegal redistributionist, vote-buying, off-the-books welfare program must go.

As I have mentioned here before, I work one day a week as a volunteer triage interviewer for a local food/clothing bank.
I interviewed a woman recently that proudly told me she had an "Obama Phone." I "naively" asked her who paid for that. Her response, "Obama."
She went on to tell me that she also had an Obama phone for each of her three kids. When I pointed out to her that the regulations restrict the phones to one per household, she said, "That's their problem, not mine."
Starting tomorrow I will have a new sign on the back of my truck thanks to Travis McGee and his reply #2 above.
Oh, FWIW, the per month "Surcharges and Other Fees on my landline phone:
Federal Universal Service Fee 1.03
Federal Subscriber Line Charge 6.62
Local Universal Service Charge .60
Intrastate Universal Service Charge .19
Total 8.44

If ANYONE doubts that women will vote for Obama based EXCLUSIVELY on the fear that they'll lose the most important thing in their lives, their cell phones, just remind yourself when in any supermarket where the women of all ages have their phones GLUED to their ears from the moment they enter till they have to check out.
(....then they're back on again immediately).

Are these charges on land line phone bills only? or also on wireless bills?

I believe the Universal Service Fee used to subsidize "lifeline" service. One land line, 911 and local calls only. And I think the recipients had to pay about $10 a month. Not totally "free.". That's the way it should be done.
