A cursory look at ancestry.com showed US censuses from 1940 back to 1850 showing all branches of her family as “white”. End of dance. No special Indian schedules. No “mulatto” to indicate Indian heritage. If Warren was so proud of her heritage, wouldn’t she have done the genealogy to prove it? Most genealogists know “family stories” can be total bunk...for an academic, wouldn’t she have wanted to investigate her family claims instead of accepting them wholesale...and then profiting from ‘stories’ by getting student aid?
