The University of California will pay damages of $30,000 to each of the 21 UC Davis students and alumni who were pepper-sprayed by campus police during an otherwise peaceful protest 10 months ago, the university system announced Wednesday.
The agreement, which must still be approved in federal court, also calls for UC to pay a total of $250,000 to the plaintiffs attorneys and set aside a maximum of $100,000 to pay up to $20,000 to any other individuals who join the class-action lawsuit by proving they were either arrested or directly pepper-sprayed, a university statement said.
A video released online, showing an officer spraying seated students directly in their faces at close range during an Occupy rally, had triggered outrage.

disappointing.
Only in America. This sort of nonsense will end soon with the republic.
Yep, defy a policeman’s orders and collect your $30K PC reward. It only stings for a little while and it sure as hell beats working for a living.
Where do we sign up?
“Only in America. This sort of nonsense will end soon with the republic.”
In the good old days is America, the government police would have used bullets and not pepper spay.
We’re doomed as a society. Get ready for the end of America as we know it.
What do you think they would get if they were Tea Party?
Assuming that pepper spray is no more unpleasant than was the gas chamber in BCT 43 years ago I’d take a spray or two for 30K.I’ve already taken one “spray” and I think I earned about $110 that month (plus room and board,of course).
Good grief. I had to be pepper sprayed in face up close when I worked in the prison dept. Good grief.
Had CS in basic training and OC in LEO school.
I lived .And never got 30k.

Having been subjected to both...the gas chamber at Basic was much worse...although the gas chamber cleared out my nasty head cold
If you can get 30K for a pepper spray....you should get at least 5X the amount for a gas chamber visit.
(BTW, the pepper spraying was not because I broke the law....my personal pepper sprayer blew up near my face. Gas Chamber in basic still much worse)
The BCT gas 39 years ago was body lotion compared to the police formula.
