Well, gee whiz — in a press conference earlier this week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi yet again brought out the over-the-top dramatics the blame all of President Obama’s ‘inherited’ economic problems on ‘the previous administration.’ This level of political pageantry is right up there with the ‘Republicans hate clean air and clean water’ she likes to trot out at every available opportunity:
Four years ago on September 18 read it, I wont go into all the details, except to bottom-line it we had a meeting in the Speakers office in the Capitol bipartisan, bicameral at which the secretary of the Treasury described a situation of our economy and our financial institutions that was so dire. He took us to the depths of Hell, a place so low that even Dante couldnt find it make a circle down there, it was so low. Four years ago and two days ago the chairman of the Fed said if we dont act immediately we will not have an economy after hearing the description and knowing the crisis we were in as a result of the policies of the Bush administration. So for them [Republicans] to have the unmitigated gall to ask the question, Are your better off now than you were four years ago? when they had taken us to the brink of a great depression, a meltdown of our financial institutions, deep indebtedness, deepening the national debt to the point that if we didnt act immediately we wouldnt have an economy an economy by Monday. I mean, this election is urgent, because what are they advocating? Going back to the same tax breaks for the rich that got us here in the first place.
So, nothing too out of the ordinary for her, but I need to take a beat and reflect on this because, once again, I find myself absolutely flabbergasted about the Democrats strategery in this race. This is it, guys this is all they have to go on, and it is nothing short of pathetic. Blame Bush; Republican obstructionism; and tax breaks for millionaires. Translation? Not our fault; nothing we could do about it; low-rent populism.
The Democrats had two full years in which they had all the sweet time in the world to do whatever they wanted, during which they chose to pass massive behemoths of unpopular healthcare legislation and financial regulation and stimuli, and President Obama promised wed see unemployment fall below eight percent.
Yet, lo and behold, here we are: Stagnant. Weaksauce economic growth, increased welfare-program participation, and joblessness have been the hallmarks of this administrations policies, and the fact that the Democrats have so few of their own positives to tout and instead have to resort to all this mind-bogglingly stupid scapegoatism should be very, very telling.
I mean, come on tax breaks for the rich that got us here in the first place? As if low taxes are a bad thing, because low taxes cant pay for all the government the Democrats want? Sorry, but Ill take less government, not higher taxes, thanks.
That is correct, and before they did the economy was thriving and unemployment was practically nonexistent. If she wants to blame someone, she needs to look in the mirror
Four years and trillions of dollars and they still could not fix it
Not mentioned is the fact that Democrats had control over the House and Senate in 2007 and 2008 ... with Bush having two more years to serve as President.
After that, Democrats had full control of House, Senate and Presidency for 2009 and 2010.
It wasn't Bush that caused the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 - and subsequent - blood baths
Who is “we”?
Pelosi has been in the Congress since way before the hell was created and was part of its creation.
I would give Obama some slack because he was only there 1 term. But not her.
This woman talks like she’s insane. I do believe she has at least one screw loose.
No, it was the banks and regulators that gave loans to people the could not afford the houses. We were shopping for a house then and I cant believe the amount they approved me for. We made a modest purchase based on our income insread.
You made it the mess that it is when you psycho/sociopathic progressives took over and then shredded the Constitution and common sense financial responsibility.
YOU own it and you freaking know it, the banking nightmare, the credit crash, the market crash, the real estate crash, and all the other crap you blame on Bush, you people did that and Bush and the feckless GOPe went along for the ride and didn't do much to stop you.
And the rest of us has had to suffer for it and then try to recover in YOUR "that which we won't call a depression" recession.
Is it necessary to say that this is sarcasm?
Well there's the trigger!
I don’t think Nancy Peolsi is lying here.
First, officials from the Bush Administration in fact did spook Congress into passing a tremendous bailout for the billionaire bankers. We might not like to recognize it, but Bush himself did “abandon free market principles in order to save the free market,” in his own words.
Second, Nancy Pelosi is obviously delusional. This characteristic would make her unfit to represent the people in Congress, except that she well represents the delusional majority in the City and County of San Francisco in California. So coherent reasoning we should not expect from her.
Third, the economic problems that this country faces run far more deeply than even the tenure of Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House of Representatives. Congress set the housing bubble in motion with stupid legislation like Community Reinvestment Act of 1977, which lay relatively dormant until a caustic combination of high price inflation, declining wages, and artificially low interest rates dropped sufficiently to make gimmickry like negative-amortization adjustable-rate interest-only payment-optional loans with low introductory rates seemingly attractive to bankers.
Fourth and most importantly, Nancy Pelosi, the Democrats, and her anti-baby ideology (her own progeny notwithstanding) set the seeds for economic hardship in this country with such horrific and downright genocidal policies as the glorification of feticide, the leading cause of death in this country. More than 54 million Americans already vanished anonymously in the abortuaries of this country, their demise almost completely unmourned.
Please pray for her immortal soul, that she may repent and never know the depths of Hell to which she here refers. By the way, Dante placed Pope Saint Celeste V in the inner circles of Hell, but the Church canonized him still, so hope endures.
It’s George Bush’s fault. (And it will work every time with the hardcore.)
IMHO
I’m happy to include, in blame, all complicit congress members who screwed with the lending industry as Barney Frank did.
You had sense. A lot of people didn’t. The blame still lies with those who took out the loans and those who forced the lenders hand.
The problem is that a large portion of the population IS that stupid.
I will pray that she does know the depths of hell. I hope she burns in hell. The sooner she gets there, the better off the whole country will be.
Believe me, if Democrats get elected for the next twenty-thirty years with resulting awful Obama-influenced i.e. poisoned economies, they’ll still be blaming Bush. It appears Democrats are eminently and perpetually resistable to the idea that they could in any way be responsible for the terrible economy.
These dimoKKKRATS are able to lie with impunity because they know darn good and well the media will not hold their feet to the fire. What the media does do is distort what a Republican says in favor of the dimoKKKRATS position. This is what we are dealing with.
Well, that would include Senator Obama, and before that ACORN Lobbyist Obama, who demanded the bogus lending practices, to benefit his parasitic peeps.
She is speaking a language that only liberals understand. They call it a dog whistle, but it's actually a moonbat screech.
