Democrats say Mitt Romney manipulated his deductions to keep his overall 2011 federal income tax rate below a certain level for political purposes. The Republican presidential nominee is certain to face new questions about his finances.
Romney and his wife, Ann, donated roughly $4 million to charities last year, but they only claimed a deduction of $2.25 million on their tax return, filed with the Internal Revenue Service on Friday.
Romney made $13.7 million last year and paid $1.94 million in federal income taxes, giving him an effective tax rate of 14.1 percent. That was a bit above the 13.9 percent rate paid on 2010 income.
More precisely, the returns showed that the couple paid $1,935,708 in taxes on income of $13,696,951.
Democrats quickly leaped on the documents, saying Romney had claimed fewer deductions than he was entitled to just to keep his rate at such a level.

Democrats: “Damn that Romney for paying more than his fair share.”
“Democrats accuse Romney of applying a political strategy in filing his 2011 tax returns”
Uh, he’s running for political office, in this case, the most important and powerful political office in the world. By definition, his acts should be applying a political strategy. If Romney had said 2+2=4, the Dems would say 2+2=5.
WHO THE HELL CARES!! The mediaPIGS are HATED and DESPISED by more than half of Americans...what was it 60% who probably would eliminated that establishment if possible. IGNORE the a**holes! Just a side note, why didn’t Romney demand Obozo release his college transcripts before he released his tax forms?! Yet we complain about appeasing the ME muslims, yet we always seem to cave and appease the evil RATS every demand....stupid gutless party!
Agreed. I don’t think this election is going to be a close as people are making it out to be.
Like the lamenews media and the ‘infamous secret’ tape.
LOL
Apparently I’m supposed to be more angry about what Governor Romney does with his money than what Mr. Obama does with mine.
no suprise
In the 10 years prior to the '08 election, Biden never once claimed a charitable deduction of more than $380 in any one year, except for '07 ($995), which is when he was one of the candidates for President. Excluding '07, this is an average of about $300 per year. On incomes well over $200k, this is embarrassing. Even the $995 is a joke when you consider an AGI of almost $320k! But in Biden's feeble mind, that was probably enough to "look good" since he was a presidential candidate.
This is so weak and ridiculous. What I want is for him to claim he is planning on suing Harry Reid for slander as soon as the election is over.
Excellent reply.
FMCDH(BITS)
Romney paid almost $2M in taxes last year, and I think it was something like $6M combined in the 2 years prior to that. How is he NOT paying his fair share, when there are others out there paying nothing?!
Dummies do not know the difference between ordinary income and capital gains:

Bravo! Attacking a man of the cloth for standing on his principles. BRAVO.
You bet! But not a peep about how Holder conducted an investigation that cleared himself.
This is our daily cross to bear and it will not get any better, any time soon.
This article and the comments that follow are unbelievable. They are now claiming he overpaid his taxes for political purposes, and the commentators are complaining that he gave to his church.
Dems need to shut their pieholes! They're always *b*tchen and moanin* about something
that is exactly the point. they want to NOT talk about what is important, and instead, try to frame the conversation away from those things.....romney is the logical target.
well said, and succinct
