Democrats accuse Romney of applying a political strategy in filing his 2011 tax returns

Democrats say Mitt Romney manipulated his deductions to keep his overall 2011 federal income tax rate below a certain level for political purposes. The Republican presidential nominee is certain to face new questions about his finances.

Romney and his wife, Ann, donated roughly $4 million to charities last year, but they only claimed a deduction of $2.25 million on their tax return, filed with the Internal Revenue Service on Friday.

Romney made $13.7 million last year and paid $1.94 million in federal income taxes, giving him an effective tax rate of 14.1 percent. That was a bit above the 13.9 percent rate paid on 2010 income.

More precisely, the returns showed that the couple paid $1,935,708 in taxes on income of $13,696,951.

Democrats quickly leaped on the documents, saying Romney had claimed fewer deductions than he was entitled to just to keep his rate at such a level.

The Lame Stream Media and Rats are now upset that Romney paid higher taxes than he was allowed.

Didn’t Romney say months ago that he would release his 2011 taxes in October? So he’s a week or so early.

No matter what he does, they’ll find something to distort or complain about.

Romney would do well not to waste too much time on this, though. I’m still waiting for him to come out and seriously attack Obama, but instead he lets the Dems control the whole show.

"Romney made $13.7 million last year and paid $1.94 million in federal income taxes"

So he paid for Zero's $400,000 salary, plus some of Michelle's designer dress bill.

So the MSM responds with “analysis” that (as always) concludes with the ominous declaration that “questions remain.”

These people are pure evil and they seem a parody of themselves.

Also they can’t stand it because democrats/ liberals are the greediest bastards on earth. Harry Reid would have to steal $5 in crooked land deals before parting with an extra 5 cents in taxes.

No way could anyone know that he didn’t declare all of his charitable deductions UNLESS someone hacked his worksheet.

Romney could walk on water and the MSM and the libtards would complain the soles of his feet are wet....

Romney needs to run a commercial asking what’s more important to Harry Reid....passing a budget or nick picking my taxes ?

The real issues of this election are employment, economy, energy, role of the federal government, foreign policy, the Constitution, etc.

Why are the Democrats so fixated on trivialities? That is plain stupid and far off track.

So he paid 14% + 30% to charities + SS and Medicare on work income. The Dems are sooooo stupid but they asked for it. They should be ashamed of the pittance of Obama.

only in the never-never land of the liberal media can giving money to charity be described as "manipulating your deductions".

Romney's tax rate is a function of two things: a capital gains rate of 15% and the deduction for contributions to charity. Which of those two policies would the Democrats suggest we change? Raise the capital gains rate to ordinary income levels and the investment of capital in new, young, or struggling enterprises will be greatly reduced and any chance of growth in the economy will vanish. Eliminate the charitable deduction and the American Red Cross, the United Way and many other worthy enterprises will have many fewer dollars with which to pursue their good works.

And since when did being wealthy disqualify one from serving as President? Applying Obama's class warfare nonsense to the election of Presidents makes no sense at all. Some Presidents who are worshiped by liberals, including Washington, both Roosevelts, and Kennedy, were very wealthy men. Some of our worst Presidents, including Nixon, both Johnsons, and Carter were not particularly wealthy or, in the case of the second Johnson, came from very humble beginnings and only amassed wealth through politics.

This illustrates perfectly why Romney didn't agree to the Demonrats' demands for 10 years of returns for the 'rats to pick over.

Democrats are accuusing Romney of (gasp!) paying more than he was legally required to pay! Maybe Warren Buffet should follow Mitt’s example and send some extra cash to the Feds since he is so outraged by his low tax rate.
