Youve no doubt heard what Mitt Romney was captured on video saying to a group of potential donors to his campaign.
Many are pillorying Romney for saying this, a few are defending him. But both his detractors and his defenders are missing what is really wrong with this statement: it ignores the role of ideasparticularly of moral ideas.
Romney implies that people vote their pocketbooks, that people vote based only on their immediate financial interest, as they conceive it. But the majority of people simply do not behave in this way. In presidential elections, the majority vote according to what they think is right.
And Romneys problem lies with the twisted notion of right that has been successfully promulgated by our opinion-leaders. The whole weight of todays intellectual Establishment is behind the belief that Romney complains of: that people are morally entitled to be taken care of by the government.
So, why talk about just the non-taxpayers ideas on entitlements: what do you think 95% of Harvard professors and the editorial board of the New York Times believe? Do Warren Buffett or George Sorosor Bill Gates for that matterthink otherwise?
By focusing on income not ideas, Romney insulted almost half of Americans, implying that they have no integritythat they place cash above principle. That insult reflects a Marxist view of man: the absurd notion that mens ideas count for nothing and that their actions are determinstically governed by their economic class. Romney has been criticized for engaging in class-warfare, and that is half-correct. Although he does talk about what people believe, he implies that they believe it only because they want the stream of loot to continue flowing their way.

. . . . .for a President to write off because he is such an ignorant fool that he thinks that they dont vote for him, but to include much of his known obvious base in the stupid remark, is beyond stupid.
___________________________________________________________
He just happens to be right on, look at the vote tally percentages for the last 30 years and see what you come up with. The country is divided between those who pay and those who don’t pay taxes. Of course there are those that don’t fit the stereotype but most people do.
The Democrat theme is to get those who don’t pay taxes to vote for Democrats to get a larger portion of the peoples money who do pay taxes to redistribute to those who don’t.
These things are facts, there is no stupidity involved, it is simply truth. Review the numbers and you will come around to see it.
Yeah, let’s waste more time on posts like yours.
Show those voting figures, we know that SS alone destroys a big part of your theory.
What Romney should now explain are the reasons why those on fixed incomes must go on food stamps and apply for other benefits such as energy assistance etc.
The price of ; goods, services ,food, as well as the cost, use, and type of of energy resources, particularly coal, and oil, have all been driven up by Obama through his endless edicts, use of regulations and prohibitions all designed to change the systems of distribution and use of pleantiful resources to conform to his socialist scheme or ideal. Without any regard to the consequences. After all let US remember “to make an omlet ..”one must break a few eggs” and the one who made that remark and the followers of that ism who repeat it.”
Well...the ignorant fools are the people who thinks that’s what he meant. He may have gotten the percentage wrong, but his point is valid. People who depend on the government for free stuff are not people who will vote for Romney, Bush or even Ronald Reagan. Period. Why waste time going after their vote.
That’s all he was saying.
No one likes to think that they are part of the 47%. In 2008, people voted for Obama because they didn’t want to be seen as racist. Now they will vote for Romney because they don’t want to be seen as one of the 47%.
I was going to vote for Romney until he uttered that statement.
I mean, every one knows that the true number was 46.978264738 per cent.
Boy, once he said 47% forget it.
I mean, what kind of uncaring candidate would say such a thing, about the 46.978264738%.
It would be so much better if obama had a second term...........I mean 47%, what an imbicile.

I mean it’s not like he got the number of States wrong.
If he thought the system of free give aways was wrong for the Country why did he implement RomneyCare which provides free healthcare including abortions. He still says he is proud of it. His RomneyCare takes from the productive workers to give to the “moochers.”
“Yeah, lets waste more time on posts like yours”
You are the one who equated getting a government check with voting conservative.
You seem to be saying correlation is causation.
People think Congress is corrupt, but they keep sending “their” congressmen back year after year.
Now, Romney on the other hand, He was educated. He was learn-ed, He is not expected to make such a blunder.
Especially for those who get socsec checks, or veteran's bennies, or other govt stuff. Everyone knows that Romney included all of those guys.
So...gotta give the vote to Zero....It is the only way to save these United States, after all his lies are right out there for all to see, while mitt only utters the blasphemy at non discript darked fundraisers, in remote places.

I think something else is being overlooked here as well. After listening to the entire quote in context, Romney was saying that his and the GOP’s message of lower taxes and lower spending does not resonate well with most of those who do not pay taxes or have “skin in the game”, if you will. I believe that he is right.
At least I sure do hope that is the reason that so many people vote against the correct methods to run a successful free market economy. I would hate to believe that 47% or more of the population is just downright moronic. Though the evidence does seem to point in that direction.
Those who receive SS benefits are not “takers”, at least until they reach the threshold of taking more from the system that they paid in. I will never see social security, even though I have paid the maximum amount in SS tax for the past 15 years. My parents knew exactly how much they paid into the system, and my father took the checks but passed away before collecting all of the funds. My mother is just now beginning to collect the remainder of his funds. At the rate that the funds are being dispersed to her, she will collect the rest of what my father paid in just under 5 years. once that threshold is hit, she will stop taking the money.
Thank you!
Correct. And SS recipients don’t see themselves as taking from the government...they correctly see it as getting back money they were forced to invest.
As I heard Romney, his 47% number may be incorrect, but he was talking about the people who consider themselves victims to whom the government OWES free housing, food, etc. as their self-perceived “rights”. Think the NAALCP.
He was not talking about Social Security recipients.
Presidential elections are always about which candidate people like more. That, combined with the stupification of America through union schools, is why Obama isn’t 20 points behind in the polls.
yeah, but it makes great fodder for righteous indignation, and things.
And the Jewish population. Should have nothing to do with Democrats but historically the majority vote for the Democratic party. Obama is loosing a lot of them this cycle but should have lost all of them and a long time ago.
So I have to concur that the author is talking about themself and themself only. It does not happen that way in the real world.
What free stuff, social security, tax breaks, EIT?
If Romney was making sense, had said something coherent, insightful, accurate, then there would not be so many completely different conservative views of what he ‘really meant to say’, or was trying to say’.
Romney’s cynicism and class warfare against what he thinks is the 53% who voted democrat in 2008, (or 47%, or whatever stupid thing he thinks) or roughly half of us, is disgusting.
Many low income white, blue collar people who are so far right compared, to anyone, but especially to the elitist, out of touch, life-long liberal, Mitt Romney, they can barely stomach the guy as it is, and now he insults them, people over 65, who were the only republican age group in 2008, military retirees, poor, humble Evangelicals, and many others.
Aside from SS elderly, the low income, non tax paying America includes many millions of what people like Romney call rednecks, the gun owning, try to stay out of the system, live on 15 to 20 thousand a year, do plenty of hunting and fishing, and avoid the government whenever possible, crowd, who vote conservative.
If Romney can ever think of anything relevant to say during his difficult to explain campaign, then let him say it, it isn’t up to us to try and make sense of the confused gibberish that comes out of his mouth.
Good point, it goes with his being anti-gun, for homosexual scout leaders, and he was way ahead of the curve on homosexualizing the military.
