The nation is closely watching the U.S. Senate race in Missouri that pits Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill against her Republican challenger U.S. Rep. Todd Akin. The two will face off for their first debate today (Sept. 21) at 10:45 a.m. in Columbia, Mo.
McCaskill, 59, is seeking her second six-year term in the Senate after previously serving as state auditor. Akin, 65, is challenging McCaskill, rather than seek re-election to the 2nd Congressional District in St. Louis, to which he first won election in 2000.

The race shot into the national spotlight last month after Akin remarked to a local television reporter when speaking about abortion that with a legitimate rape the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.
He has since backed off the statement saying that he misspoke, but has rejected pleas from Republican leaders to drop out of the race. Republicans were hoping to unseat McCaskill in November, bringing them one step closer to holding a majority in the U.S. Senate.
Not all Republicans have shied away from supporting Akin. Former presidential candidate Newt Gingrich will be in Missouri on Sept. 24 at a fundraiser for Akin. The $500-a-plate luncheon will be held at Trattoria Branica restaurant in Kirkwood. The invitation-only event is expected to be a small gathering of about 100 people.
I think Todd Akin was the choice of the people in Missouri and Todd Akin has publicly apologized, Gingrich recently told ABC News. I just think people ought to be a little cautious about saying the voters of Missouri dont count.

Exactly! And it sticks out like a sore throat. Most of her arguments (especially about Medicare) have already been debunked and the American people already know the truth.
The truth is NOT on her side.
McCaskill: There are a lot of things in the bill ...
[Pelosi: We gotta pass it to find out what is in it.]
He was portrayed as some knuckle dragging, ignorant doofus and he is destroying that image. Akin is winning this.
“sore thumb”
“What do you feel least prepared as a Senator to deal with?”
huh?
Thanks for the compliment. Sorry you are having problems with the steaming links. Yes, I guarantee there will be a transcript of the debate after it ends. I will be doing searches to make sure it gets on Free Republic threads. Have a nice day. Looks like we are gaining momentum and, God willing, will win this for Todd come Nov. 6th.
She sounds so snotty! arrogant witch that she is...loved it when Akin said it is bad enough when the insurance companies get between the patient and the doctor and the only thing worse is when the govt gets between a patient and the doctor! he rocked!
Oh just got it! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! I am watching it now...while getting ready and Akin rocks!
McCaskill says listening to the citizens is one of the most important duties of her as a politician.
[I don’t know whether she voted for Obamacare, but if she did, she wasn’t listenting to the people. According to Akin, some 70% of Missourians were/are opposed to Obamacare.]
This guy is solid!
WHAT A FLAMING SCREW UP FOR THE GOP TO TURN ON HIM!
Akin nailing everything on foreign policy!
McCaskill, first thing out of her mouth, IRAQ!!!!! WAR PROFITEERING!!!!!
Wow - she is not very good at this.
McCaskill avoided the question “Libya/Egypt”. Instead talks about Iraq under Bush.
McCaskill is advocating pulling the infrastructure money going to Iraq and Afghanistan.
[YOU are in the Senate, do something! She is trying to run against GW Bush and those wars, but Obama is in charge of them, as of January 20, 2009.]
Hee hee....he is ON:) with hold money to Eygpt until they start acting like our ally. Akin said we made concessions to Russia and they haven’t done anything in return and we have shunned Netanyahu...he is right.
Akin’s son served in Iraq and Afghanistan...he is a marine combat engineer...locates bombs.
McCaskill twice invoking Harry Truman spinning in his grave.
Does the president from 60 years ago resonate with anyone?
Second thing out of her mouth regarding Libya/Egypt:
HALBURTON! HALBURTON! HALBURTON!
One thread this morning indicated that DeMint may be considering releasing funds to Akin.
[This is the first time I have ever heard him, except for his non-apology statement. I am impressed.]
Akin wants the senate to pass a budget. OOOOOHHHHHHH SCARE McCACKLES is going after the Tea Party NOW...that puts her in hot water
Akin says it is a Constitutional mandate.

Praying for Todd right now. Claire is an evil witch.
