The nation is closely watching the U.S. Senate race in Missouri that pits Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill against her Republican challenger U.S. Rep. Todd Akin. The two will face off for their first debate today (Sept. 21) at 10:45 a.m. in Columbia, Mo.
McCaskill, 59, is seeking her second six-year term in the Senate after previously serving as state auditor. Akin, 65, is challenging McCaskill, rather than seek re-election to the 2nd Congressional District in St. Louis, to which he first won election in 2000.

The race shot into the national spotlight last month after Akin remarked to a local television reporter when speaking about abortion that with a legitimate rape the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.
He has since backed off the statement saying that he misspoke, but has rejected pleas from Republican leaders to drop out of the race. Republicans were hoping to unseat McCaskill in November, bringing them one step closer to holding a majority in the U.S. Senate.
Not all Republicans have shied away from supporting Akin. Former presidential candidate Newt Gingrich will be in Missouri on Sept. 24 at a fundraiser for Akin. The $500-a-plate luncheon will be held at Trattoria Branica restaurant in Kirkwood. The invitation-only event is expected to be a small gathering of about 100 people.
I think Todd Akin was the choice of the people in Missouri and Todd Akin has publicly apologized, Gingrich recently told ABC News. I just think people ought to be a little cautious about saying the voters of Missouri dont count.

Akin made a huge blunder, apologized, and now deserves our support... and GOP funds. He is, after all, a solid conservative through and through
Says off the air
Atkin sounds awesome already! I’ll bet the wins handily against dumb and ugly.
Thanks!
Some weenie questioner whining about the cost of education.
McCaskill wants more smokers, higher cigarette taxes!
:)
The third man there talks like I type my comments. He needs a good grammar class.
McCaskill wants to raise the state tax of cigarettes to help pay for education.
Libertarian Dude says colleges are greedy, charge too much (damn right)
Akin says government getting involved in education drives the price up.
McCaskill does nothing but attack attack attack!
She spends more time telling what Akin would do than she does about what she would do. Akin’s there, he’ll answer for himself. Geez!
McCaskill still remembers where the Post Offices were in the towns she grew up in.
LOL
Seriously????
Not to be catty, but has she put on some major caboose weight since 2006?
YES! Akin points out the gridlock in the Senate. Tie her to it, Todd!
Thanking YOU for all you do:) having trouble viewing the debates on the streams...and have to leave in 20 mins! wonder if we will be able to obtain a transcript?
Evil Slayer...I think we are witnessing the kick off of a Akin rally. No republican in their right mind would vote for Claire or given the option leave the senate vote blank.
God be with Akin and US.
This guy is awesome! ROCK SOLID CONSERVATIVE! HE NEEDS FULL BACKING!
So far in the debate Akin appears honest, very knowledgeable and diplomatic while McCaskill appears to be doing nothing but spinning for Obama and her party.
She is sounding shrill and overly defensive on the Medicare cuts in Obamacare.
