Gun-friendly Utah is surprisingly queasy when it comes to the kinds of paper targets shooters are allowed to use on state-owned ranges. Well, one state agency is, anyway. Now a Beehive State legislator wants to know why. The range belongs to the people, Sen. Mark Madsen, R-Eagle Mountain, said. We need to make sure that people are not restricted in their use because of an overstep of authority. Or an overabundance of political correctness . . .
It is not against state law for human form targets to be used inside the gun-friendly Beehive State, but Utahs Division of Wildlife Resources has had an unwritten policy in place that the targets are not to be used by the general public at the ranges. The human silhouette targets are allowed if the range is being rented out by a police force or a concealed weapons training class.
Just to be clear, its OK for cops to practice using targets that represent what theyll most likely find themselves shooting at, but its somehow beyond the pale for Jane and Joe Schmoe to do the same when training to protect themselves and their families. OK, then.
Representatives with DWR explained that the ranges primary purposes are to promote hunter safety and that human form targets are not used in those courses as they felt the targets would be counterproductive to the course. DWR said they were open to discussion on finding a way for those who want to take aim at something other than a bullseye.
Counterproductive, huh? It all becomes a little clearer, doesnt it? DWRs bought into that whole sporting purpose thing. Next thing you know, theyll prohibit, uh, assault rifles. Or as theyd probably call them, terrorist rifles.
Ha ha, that's GREAT! Pretty sure your Thanksgiving turkey is gonna be nasty this year though, and probably give your family the runs!
That is just practicing defense against tyranny.
Back in the Roarin’ Nineties a couple of small ranges that I frequented sold Bill and Hillary targets. (Looking back that kind of freedom is almost unimaginable.) A few years later virtually every range sold at least one kind of Bin Laden target. Thanks to those I put more rounds in Osama than Seal Team 6 could even carry on a mission. One range I know still sells photo targets of menacing men and women(!). (No menacing racial minorities, though.) I guess someone would really get their panties in a twist if the saw those targets.
How do they feel about blue helmets?
Mookie? Must be a Sawx fan!
“theyre not human, theyre LIBERALS!”
Yeah, it’s not like they’re real people.
And head-shots shouldn’t count. Numerous scientific studies involving ballistic gelatin, zombies and other liberals have shown that almost all rounds will ricochet off a liberal’s skull. (All except the .44 mag “compassion” round.)
How about a target that is cardboard that is shaped like a old fashioned wooden coffin? can be made to be roughly 5-6 feet tall for use at long range.
So, pictures of folks in Obama t-shirts?
I wish New York’s finest would.
