Mitt Romney's presidential bid has been gleefully portrayed as doomed after a series of supposed stumbles that have delighted Democrats.
Voters, however, apparently view things rather differently.
Romney has closed to just one point behind Barack Obama - a drop of six percentage points in a week for the President, according to the latest Gallup tracking poll released on Tuesday. Obama is now on 47 points and Romney 46.
The survey was taken before the current furore over comments made by the Republican nominee in a fundraiser at Boca Raton, Florida in which he said that 47 per cent of Americans were dependent on the government and 'it's not my job to worry about these people'.
But the poll, and another by Rasmussen that puts Romney two points ahead, strongly indicate that Obama's Democratic convention 'bounce' has all but evaporated and the 2012 race is wide open...

That Gallup Poll was posted this morning.
I asked about the D/R/I breakdown of the poll.
Someone responded that Gallup did not provide it.
Without the D/R/I breakdown, it is difficult to gauge the accuracy of this poll.
There’s just no way that’s accurate. According to the very reliable council of concern trolls, the state of Mitt Romney’s campaign should be of MAJOR CONCERN to everyone.
Time for Holder to threaten Gallup again.
I heard earlier Zero was up by 9 in FL/OH and one other state. It was a fox news poll.
If I cared about polls I might check to see how bad they over sampled.

Don’t forget that Gallup was showing a Romney lead and then Axelrod got on the phone and the next day they changed their methodology and Zero was in the lead. There was a story on this two weeks ago. So if ANYTHING, the poll probably over-samples Dems.
So far, Rasmussen is the only one not over-sampling Dems.
We have to go to overseas sources to get worthwhile journalism. Our biased news media stinks. Can’t cover anything, except the news story de jour.
I’d say hussein really needs to be taken out with the trash, but that would be giving trash a bad name.
All the political advertising I have heard on radio so far (NW Florida) is a spot explaining that Romney will end medicare and Medicaid and throw Grandma out of the nursing home. It is repeated at every advertising break.
Why isn’t Romney saturating the TV and airwaves?
I agree that it’s not over yet.
Fox polls are among the worst of the worst. They had Kerry winning the popular vote in its final 2004 poll, also had him winning Florida by 5 points. They can be ignored. Has Mason-Dixon polled this year? Their polls are usually pretty good, same with SurveyUSA and Rasmussen.
See tagline.
I don’t know, but I have a guess. Romney has more to say than Obama does. Obama drones on and on for months, then Romney comes in and carpet bombs the place to make Obama look like a fool. You can’t do that too early.
Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
Thank you, our British cousins, for publishing the news. The American fecal “press” stopped doing that years ago.
There, fixed it.
“I have it on good authority from a campaign staffer that Mitt will win Ohio by at least 5 percent.”
Thanks for sharing the intel.
If you carpet bomb with comments that 47% of voters are deadbeats and moochers, you might end up killing yourself with friendly fire. Interestingly, the highest precentage of this 47% lives in southern tier red states. If your after withholding pay adds up to $26,400 and you are married with 2 children, you will owe no taxes because of Standard Deduction and Exemptions. For a 40 hour week, 52 weeks a year this comes to take home pay of $12.70 an hour. There are certainly areas of the country where this would be a tolerable income, and the people earning it would not be feeling sorry for themselves and would resent being called deadbeats and moochers.
You think that's likely?
