Fox News ^ | September 18, 2012

...For the first time, school lunches must have age-aligned calorie maximums, capping the amount of calories high school students eat to around 850 calories. The new restrictions all come from the updated Dietary Guidelines for Americans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and are funded by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 – legislation promoted by Michelle Obama.

While the changes may seem like a step in a healthier direction, not all students are finding them so tasty. On Monday, about 70 percent of the 830 students at Mukwonago High School in Wisconsin who typically buy their lunch boycotted the school’s cafeteria ...

My teenage daughter’s boyfriend can consume 850 calories during a commercial break.

Clearly this is the work of people who HAVE NEVER RAISED CHILDREN!!!

Confirmed on the pizza. My son is on the autism scale, but eats cheese pizza from just about anywhere, except WA state middle school.

New, whole wheat crust you see. Not sure what they did to the sauce, but nobody eats it anymore.

My daughter used to buy every meal from school, but I’ve been packing her lunches every day now since the first week of school.

Mrs. Obama, you are a GENIUS!!! How do you get poor parents to actually feed their children? You make the school food INEDIBLE!! Look at the money she’s saving the department of education/agriculture?

Four more years? With this kind of cost-cutting, absolutely! /SSS

They have banned sodas at our sons’ high school and are confiscating them when they see any. LOL I have no pity. We were not allowed to have sodas at our school in the 80s in Mississippi. There was a Coke machine outside the offices, but only teachers were allowed to buy from it during school hours. I confess to being a delinquent and sneaking a grape soda a time or two. I also confess that the assistant principal(s) may have seen me do this dastardly deed. I was a teacher’s and asst. principal’s pet and was able to do things others were not allowed to do. One of my sons tends to have teachers and school security on his side as well because he does some interesting things at school but often is paid by teachers to take their cars and to go buy them food off campus. I do see a disturbing trend among students at the school. They have begun to call their new principal “Mrs. Obama.”

There are about 1200 students and less then 40 were buying lunch. During the football games, the students waved brown paper bags. The stores sold out of the brown paper bags. They are forcing kids to eat a fruit. You know how much fruit went into the trash!

It would be interesting to get an accounting of how much federal and state money the school receives for the school lunches. Do not be surprised if they are getting money to provide far more than 40 lunches, and somebody is pocketing the difference.

I was talking to a local school board member here and asked him why they couldn’t just buy another lunch. He said the new rules say they cannot do that. They can’t even get an extra slice of bread, or a second milk because that puts too much of whatever into their diet. This is absurd.

"Now it's worse tasting, smaller sized and higher priced," Bougneit said.

Quote direct from the article. If this isn't a good lesson in what happens when the gov't gets involved, I dunno what is.

They have banned sodas at our sons’ high school

They did that to mine in the 80's, too.

The end result? Oftentimes we cut class to walk off campus to the local Quickie-Mart. There, we'd buy a liter bottle of soda, and, as often as not, a pack of smokes (the QM's motto - "Is your money green? Sure, we have that.") to have a butt on the way back.

So, instead of having a 12 ounce can of Coke from the machine on campus, we

1) Cut class.

2) Got a 33 ounce Coke rather than a 12 ounce, and

3) Smoked cigarettes

The unintended consequences of Liberal Policies never cease to fascinate me. :-)

Well, not only are they cracking down on sodas, but they are cracking down on the whacky weed and other things that are regularly bought and sold there. Our sons say that when they find someone with weed, they take their cellphones and start going through texts and phone numbers looking for the sellers and other users. Let’s just say that the mellow students won’t be mellow for long. No soda, munches, or drugs. This is La Raza Central. (really!) they have a new principal who isn’t La Raza. And she is bringing in her own security people and filling other positions accordingly. I see rioting in the near future at the school.

When school is out, they still have school lunches in many areas.

Any teacher or government flunky who confiscates my kid’s lunch will be arrested - by me, under state law allowing for a private person’s arrest - for theft. And I hope they resist.

When I was young, I could eat all day long and not gain an ounce. I’d be starving, if my lunch was only 850 calories.

Giving the fruit? No.

They ate giving them projectiles to throw at the teacher.

“What’s a grandparents breakfast—and why?”

School sent a notice home inviting Grandparents to come to school and have breakfast with their grandchildren. So I went. I had no idea what they had planned but evidently they really didn’t do much planning. For some reason they seemed to forget about all the children that come to school to get their free breakfast. Anyway after waiting in line for 45 minutes my grandchildren get their breakfast, I pay the cashier and we sit down. I was waiting for some kind of program, an address by the principal, but there was nothing. When my grandchildren finished eating, and believe me I told them to take their time,I walked them to class and headed out. In the hallway I saw the principal coming out of the cafeteria all smiles thanking me for coming to Grandparent’s Day. There was so much I could have said but I just kept walking out the door. Why did they have the breakfast you ask. Beats the dickens out of me. All the way home I told myself thank God I sent all of my children to Private school because I couldn’t deal with this stupidity.
