Monday, September 17, 2012 | Kristinn

Political reporters on Twitter are saying they are standing by for a Romney media availability on the video released today by Mother Jones of Romney at a May fundraiser speaking frankly of his thoughts on Obama's base voters and their entitlement mentality, aka the 47% who pay no federal income taxes.

The media and GOP-E have jumped ugly on Romney tonight.

Steve Holland, Reuters: Romney at press avail to respond to video says his comments weren't "elegantly stated," and "could have said it in a more effective way."

Absolutely, see #400

Instead of trying to figure who to tax more or blame for not paying enough taxes, I’d actually vote for the guy if he’d go after government, which is the direct cause of the American economic decline.

And this time let’s not make our usual mistake of putting the cart before the horse and giving ourselves a tax break before we cut spending.

It's necessary that the tax break come first. Turning around the economy is an urgent priority and MUST be the first concern. Once the economy is growing again, more people will be employed and the tax base will expand with the economy.

Shrinking government and reducing spending will be the second job...and will necessarily require a longer time-frame.

For the first time Romney actually spoke like a Conservative and its about damn time. Obama voters ARE freeloaders..anyone that saw the DNC Convention knows that. They were all crying for free birth control, free abortions, free health care, free condoms, free everything..YES they are freeloaders. I hope EVERYONE sees the video because the media will be forced to show the WHOLE thing and once people see it they will see that Romney is right. Romney won’t apologize because what he said is absolutely correct. Do we want to live in freedom or do we want America to become Venezuela, I guess in the next few days we will find out what the American people want. We will see what the polls show and I hope to God it shows that the American people want freedom

...its sickening what the media has become in this country..it makes pravda look unbiased.

If I were a venture capitalist, I would pour money into creating a new broadcast network that was as far conservative as MSNBC is liberal. I honestly believe that it would destroy what's left of the corrupt liberal biased networks and would capture huge market share. 53% of this country has nothing to watch except liberal scum. There are a lot of venture capitalists out there and all it would take is a handful to jump on the opportunity of producing a few staunchly conservative networks. I mean the void that exists in network broadcasting is so obvious that even I can see it. Fox News is a semi RINO network that tries to do fair and balanced. Hell we don't need that. To achieve true balance we need true hard conservative networks to offset the spit drooling lunatic liberal networks. I think that this will happen at some point and hopefully it won't be too late.

No, not permanently.

The best we can hope for is to buy a little more time.

Our country has been on this socialist path for 60+ years. They and we, have allowed the take over of virtually all of our institutions and quite frankly, I don’t see it reversing unless some extraordinary events occur.

A single election is not extraordinary.

Well said throughout and I agree with everything except your last statement. This election is truly extraordinary because this administration has pushed socialism and it’s debt driven spending further and faster than anyone believed possible. Socialism has been an incremental creeping plague sweeping our nation for many decades. However, the rate of spending by this administration is unprecedented and as long as they control the media there is little debate or thought about hard choices on entitlements going forward. We are borrowing almost half of what we spend and that is before Obamacare goes into effect - potentially the largest government spending program ever.

The renewed pumping of the Fed was obviously deemed necessary to prop up our banks and Wall Street. They can’t do it indefinitely because of inflation. Some say if they don’t do it the system collapses. You or I can’t pay our bills indefinitely on a credit card. Why can they? The value of our currency is decreasing and that will impact everything else moving forward. We can’t get out of debt by borrowing more money. Ultimately, these “created dollars” are a tax on future generations to preserve the existing rot in the system.

This administration has been an unmitigated foreign policy disaster and will be worse in a second term. The world is experiencing a very big transition and this President apologizes for who we are and projects weakness. They won’t cut entitlements, but they will gut the military. The rest of the world is watching and waiting.

This President appointed two Justices that are left-wing radicals. The odds are pretty good that he will get to appoint at least 2 more if not 3. This would cement SCOTUS as Obama’s court far beyond 4 more years.

This election is very extraordinary FRiend. This President has curtailed his wish list because of one date in November. Remove that and all bets are off.

Taking exemptions is not the same as being on welfare.

You missed his point.

Be careful not to lump truly disabled people into that group or another group you disapprove of. I worked from age 14 on up, but after 7 back surgeries, a brain surgery, knee surgery, and 3 surgeries to implant pain pumps, there is no way I can be a reliable employee to anyone. I have no family, so it’s either live on the streets or be on disability. Believe me there isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t miss working. I loved my job.

Mitt spoke to a Hispanic interest group today, and I'm guessing his speech left a mark, hence the pre-arranged "leak".

What kind of free stuff did he promise THEM?

Look, USPS had the 3602 for many years, and as postage computation became more and more complex we'd create a new series, so, yeah, everything flows conceptually if not in reality to or threw a single document ~ so there was the 3602, 3602 PC, 3602 A, 3602 B, etc.

Associated with that was a REQUIREMENT for what we called SUPPLEMENTAL DOCUMENTATION

In the final balance you would get along with us much better on an appeal if you could provide a copy of all your supplemental documentation than you could a 3602 (of whether further nomenclature).

We'd refer to a 3602 as a 3602 for convenience, not for final determination of how you should have paid your postage ~ BTW, those were not trivial amounts ~ millions of bucks are commonlypaid for single mailings.

Thank God we only had cops and publisher's lawyers to mess with and not CPAs ~ IRS has unfortunately allowed you guys to imagine a grand scheme where there is none.

Wrong. This is the exactly message that will win. Our side needs to pit the takers against the producers. To many on the productive side vote against their own interest. The 47% argument is one of our best cases for reform and a new direction.

Freeloaders is exactly what they are. A good way for Romney to finesse this would be to play a clip of Obama saying “everyone has to have some skin in the game”. Everyone? Remind working people about the statistic that came out just yesterday that it takes 16 workers to cover every 1 non worker.

“Be careful not to lump truly disabled people into that group or another group you disapprove of. “

I agree with you, but let’s not let the ‘politics of division’ divide us here at FR It’s a good bet that most if not all here feel that we should be a compassionate society that helps those in need. You clearly fit that bill, and deserve our help. The problem is 1) with those who game the system, and 2) those motivated by resentment of people who have more money and ‘things’ than them.

The democrats have been the primary purveyors of class warfare, and if Romney is smart he will turn this around on them.

Thanks, nutmeg. Hopefully this latest focus on Romney will blow over in most peoples’ minds before they vote in Ohio. I wonder if most of the early voters are those who had made up their mind long ago....nothing was going to change it.
