Opinion: The reality of Islamaphobia (mega barf!)
CNN ^

Posted on 09/16/2012 10:05:53 AM PDT by TigerClaws

I was raised as an evangelical Christian in America, and any discussion of Christian-Jewish-Muslim relations around the world must include the phenomenon of American Islamophobia, for which large sectors of evangelical Christianity in America serve as a greenhouse.

At a time when U.S. embassies are being attacked and when people are getting killed over an offensive, adolescent and puerile film targeting Islam - beyond pathetic in its tawdriness – we must begin to own up to the reality of evangelical Islamaphobia.

Many of my own relatives receive and forward pious-sounding and alarm-bell-ringing e-mails that trumpet (IN LOTS OF CAPITAL LETTERS WITH EXCLAMATION POINTS!) the evils of Islam, that call their fellow evangelicals and charismatics to prayer and “spiritual warfare” against those alleged evils, and that often - truth be told - contain lots of downright lies.

Or, we could learn a very simple lesson from Ancient Rome.

If you won’t respect us; you will learn to fear us.

Or will they stop, rethink and seek to a more charitable approach to our Muslim neighbors?

Since every intelligence service in the world have stated that it is all about al qaeda and anti US attitudes and the blind camel humper and his brigades... the very ones that tried to take down the World Trade Center's Twin Towers in 1993... everything else after that statement is a bald faced lie and GOD is watching... demons of cnn.

One thing this regime does NOT want is respect. It wants to be liked (which tells islam that it wants to be walked on).

And I can’t believe that people want this obozo fool again. How low do they want us to sink?

Every time I read that sentence I am struck with the idea that McClaren seems to believe that Islamophobia attacked those embassies and killed our ambassador and his guards. No, Brian, Muslim fanatics did that. I really can't remember the last time a group of evangelical Christians stormed an embassy and committed murder.

In “A New Kind of Christianity” (HarperOne, 2010), Brian articulated ten questions that are central to the emergence of a postmodern, post-colonial Christian faith. His 2011 HarperOne release, “Naked Spirituality,” offers “simple, doable, and durable” practices to help people deepen their life with God.

Brian D. McLaren is a blogger for Beliefnet’s Progressive Revival, an author, speaker, pastor, and networker among innovative Christian leaders, thinkers, and activists.

Time (the 4 page magazine you might find in a medical sitting room)magazine named author and pastor Brian McLaren one of the 25 most influential evangelicals in America.

“I was a good kid, I believed what I’d been told. And as a pastor, I started having gay people come out to me and what became clearer and clearer to me is that their experience was not explained by the theology I inherited. And that it would be unjust to continue to uphold what I’d been taught. Maybe I could say it like this: My call to love God and love my neighbor was in conflict with what I’d been taught the Bible required me to say and do.”

Brian D. McLaren is an activist and public theologian, and author of The Church on the Other Side: Doing Ministry in the Postmodern Matrix and A New Kind of Christianity.

Brian D. McLaren -

leading figure in the emerging church movement. McLaren is also associated with postmodern Christianity and progressive Christianity and is a major figure in post-evangelical thought.

The emerging church favors the use of simple story and narrative. Members of the movement often place a high value on good works or social activism, including missional living. While some Evangelicals emphasize eternal salvation, many in the emerging church emphasize the here and now. Key themes of the emerging church are couched in the language of reform, Praxis-oriented lifestyles, Post-evangelical thought, and incorporation or acknowledgment of political and Postmodern elements

It’s sad how someone can watch muslims killing innocent people and claim that it proves that Evangelicals are wrong about muslims.

Well, this statement by McLaren is just as sad:

“For example, one recent e-mail claimed “Egyptian Christians in Grave Danger as Muslim Brotherhood Crucifies Opponents.” Of course, that claim has been thoroughly debunked, but the sender’s website still (as of Friday) claims that the Muslim Brotherhood has “crucified those opposing” Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy “naked on trees in front of the presidential palace while abusing others.””

Maybe the claim is hyperbole but the fact he downplays claims that Egyptian Christians are in danger is just downright foolish and ignorant. Has he not heard of the shootings and bombings of Coptic Christian churches?

the reality of evangelical Islamaphobia.

An emotion is a consequence of a value judgment. When a set of irrational and mystical beliefs is judged to be evil, and one believes that one is in danger or something bad is about to happen because of that evil, fear is a normal, natural, and appropriate emotional response.

The beliefs of Islam include:

1) one of the five pillars of Islam is Jihad, and the Fatwas of 1996 and 1998 call for Jihad against America
2) Sharia law is based on mysticism, is irrational, and subject to neither history nor circumstance. It includes legal pronouncements such as stoning of adulterers, cutting off hands of thieves, killing apostates and the restriction of freedom of women and apostates.
3) the ultimate goal of Islam is global Islamic theocracy and the implementation of Sharia law in all communities through the force of Jihad

When one uses life and the natural right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness as the standard of value, these beliefs are evil and deserve to be feared.
