There were plenty of big city European intellectuals that were antisemitic, even over the last 500 years, but a lot of others thought highly of the Jews. So even if it was a 50/50 split, that was good enough for the Jews to say “the intellectuals are our friends because at least SOME of them stick up for us”.
Oh yeah, my immigrant grandparents voted for the Socialist Norman Thomas for President in the 1940s. The Jews were told that Socialism/Marxism was the antidote to antisemitism, but they didn’t stick around long enough to experience the horrors of Stalin.
Talk the Jews who lived behind the Iron Curtain for 70 years, the ones who have come over to America over the past 30 years from cities like Tashkent, Baku, and Odessa. They experienced the so called “Marxist utopia” first hand.
They all vote for the Republicans.
Zero will not take Florida or Ohio, or Virginia, either — the partisan media meme is one more thing they won’t manage to build.
The problem is that in so many European countries, the Jews were formally invited to live there by the Kings and Queens, who wanted the Jews to serve as the “business class” in the feudal system. But once these countries started to become more modernized and their economies flourished, the Jews were resented and seen as expendable.
So there is this fear that America is just another country that will treat the Jews good for awhile, and then they’ll turn on us, and it will be the rural, religious, nationalists that will come after us on horseback with blow torches.
I try to explain to Jewish Liberals that America is different. America, like Ancient Israel, was founded on a set of ideals (the Constitution/the Torah) put forth by a group of wise men (America’s founding fathers/the Biblical prophets and sages). I tell them that America is hated for the exact same reasons that the Jews are hated.....”too rich, too powerful, too arrogant, too pushy”. I tell them that religious Christians in the American heartland are the most natural allies that the Jews have ever had in their 3,000 year history.
But most of them can’t get past their big city prejudice and their fear of European history repeating itself in America. It’s very frustrating.

The tragedy is that the MSM covers for Obama so much that the average person may not realize that Obama’s policy is the problem, not some video that most people have never seen. In Carter’s day, there was no way that the media could fail to cover the hostage crisis. In fact, I remember the nightly news counting out the days during that time.
