AL-Qaeda said the deadly attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya was in revenge for the killing of the network's number two Sheikh Abu Yahya al-Libi, SITE Intelligence Group reported.
"The killing of Sheikh Abu Yahya only increased the enthusiasm and determination of the sons of (Libyan independence hero) Omar al-Mokhtar to take revenge upon those who attack our Prophet," said al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula said in a statement, quoted by the US-based monitoring group.
Al-Qaida's Yemen-based offshoot did not claim direct responsibility for Tuesday's attack on the US consulate in Benghazi that killed the US ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and three other Americans.
But it stressed that "the uprising of our people in Libya, Egypt and Yemen against America and its embassies is a sign to notify the United States that its war is not directed against groups and organisations ... but against the Islamic nation that has rebelled against injustice."
The statement comes four days after al-Qaida chief Ayman al-Zawahiri issued a video eulogising Libi, his late deputy and propaganda chief who was killed in a drone strike in June.
Mohammed al-Megaryef, the head of Libya's national assembly, said today that the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi was planned and "meticulously executed."

Our administration responded by posting 8 LOCAL SECURITY GUARDS outside the consulate on the ANNIVERSARY of 9-11. Criminal negligence by Hillary and Obama got our Ambassador killed.
The proper response would be to shoot all the scum in Gitmo.
Obama and Clinton outsourced security?
Oh ... then I guess our infirmative action, muslim sympathizing leader and his equally incompetent sec of state were wrong — the attacks and murders weren’t caused by a movie.
but, but , Barry and Hillary said the attack was because of a youtube video. /s
Oh ... then I guess our infirmative action, muslim sympathizing leader and his equally incompetent sec of state were wrong — the attacks and murders weren’t caused by a movie (although I predict the idiot’s pimp (er, press secretary) will thrill us with an explanation that explains everything).
But, WAIT, the president told me it was all about that video.</sarc>
BO did say that he would defer to Islam if he had to make a choice didn't he?
If they all consider it an honour to die for islam, then why would they avenge the killing of one of their head honchos? Shouldn’t they be giving praise to the drone?
Isnt Barry still on track to close Gitmo by November?
Or is Bam-Bam back in Las Vegas at the Luxor extorting more donations from the heavy hitters?

we all should be thankful about how the muzzies helped NASA get to the Moon. /sarc.
Just drop the damn bomb. Drop it.
BINGO!! And with any luck, the muzz will be blown well past the Moon - I’d sure hate to see its unique environment become polluted by all that shiite...
Surprise, surprise, surprise.......
Ohhh -- you mean you weren't upset about the 14 minute video that you didn't see???
Hmmm, seems to me that Obama and Hillary “shot first and aimed later” by blaming it on the stupid film.
If Romney plays this right, this can be a fatal blow to Obama.
“President Obama accused me of ‘shooting first and aiming later’....if anyone shot first and aimed later, it was President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton, by using a movie to deflect from their incompetence, and by now making that film the center of attention, caused the unrest to spread throughout the middle east.”
Four years ago this week I think, Mccain suspended his campaign, waiting for Romney to do the same. Hello where is everybody. They should be all over this.
“Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan.”
Of course Al Qaeda is going to claim responsibility. On our side, no one will claim it—in fact everyone will point the finger at someone else.
What ever happened to the movie that was being made about the killing of Osama bin Laden? Wasn’t the administration cooperating on THAT one?
