(Reuters) - The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits rose more than expected last week, with several states reporting an increase related to Tropical Storm Isaac.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits rose 15,000 to a seasonally adjusted 382,000, the highest in two months, the Labor Department said on Thursday. The prior week's figure was revised up to show 2,000 more applications than previously reported.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims rising to 370,000 last week.
A Labor Department official said Tropical Storm Isaac, which drenched parts of the country, accounted for about 9,000 of the claims filed last week. The number is unadjusted.
But even accounting for the storm, the report suggested little improvement in the labor market after job growth slowed sharply in August. The four-week moving average for new claims, a better measure of labor market trends, climbed 3,250 to 375,000, the highest since the middle of July.

What a freakin joke. Anything to make excuses for this president’s abysmal performance. Next, Reuters will be blaming increases in unemployment on Romney’s statements.
For Obama's Dept. of Labor, any port in a storm.
This points out something I hadn’t thought about.
If they permit a person to file for unemployment payments over a storm, then the get to count that person as a “job created” when he comes back to his job.
IOW, really lenient requirements for applying for UE payments is a means of boosting jobs-created numbers.

I would think all the cleanup would create jobs.
Isaacs fault?
Well, Issac had something to do with it. Also, with the start of football season, the NFL teams had to trim down their rosters, so that added some guys to the rolls... so there’s that.
In a related item, the National Weather Service announces that for the remainder of the 2012 Hurricane Season, all named storms will be designated “George W. Bush”.

Domestic Storm Obama boosts jobless claims
Storms, earthquakes, droughts, floods, volcanoes, wildfires, tsunamis........maybe God is trying to tell Obozo something...........

Per the DOL website:

FL, NC, GA, PR had a Decrease of over 1,000...so it certainly didnt hurt Florida or Puerto Rico. And to make Rueter’s claim even more ridiculous, it states that Puerto Ricos DECREASE was BECAUSE of office closures due to Isaac. They had less claims, because the office wasnt open all week!
The states with the largest Increase: Storm ravaged PA and NV.
They really are just making stuff up now.
Reuters doing their level best to cover the “ONE”’s butt. Pathetic.
The clean up costs will boost employment, but only when the insurance checks have been cut. It will take a little time for the local economy to pick up, but may show up in the crutial just before the election. Obama will be able to take credit for the bump.
Global Warming’s fault! /s
