Two US Navy warships are moving towards the coast of Libya, two US officials tell CNN. The destroyers are the USS Laboon and the USS McFaul. Both ships are equipped with tomahawk missiles that could be used if a strike was ordered. Tomahawks are satellite-guided cruise missiles that can be programmed to hit specific targets.

True; but destroyers are also the advance screen for carrier battle groups (CVBG) and amphibious ready groups (ARG). Those 50 Marines being sent to reinforce security at the US Consulate in Benghazi are probably going to have a heck of a lot of indirect fire support and Marine backup sitting just over the horizon.

It won't come to that. They are there to secure facilities and equipment and provide security for setting up replacement facilities. Everyone stationed at the consulate has left. The State Dept will send in some TDY personnel to reconstitute the consulate and pack up whatever personal belongings are left from the staff.
The Embassy is in Tripoli.

The Iowa class in contrast had a well deserved reputation as 22 mile snipers. My dad was the port 5" gunnery officer on the Iowa when his gun crew nailed Wonsan harbor on Sept 23, 1952. It wiped out the communist's winter ammunition supply.

Obama shoots blanks. There's an old joke related to that, about a man wearing a tuxedo to get a vasectomy...
Cheers!

“.... a bunch of deserted tents will be bombed later this month”
That reminds of a statement of Dubya’s...made shortly after 911 in 2001.....he made it in the Oval Office, and was referring to Willy Jeff Clinton’s feckless cruise missile diversions during the Lewinsky scandals..
“When I take action, I’m not going to fire a $2 million missile at a $10 empty tent and hit a camel in the butt. It’s going to be decisive.”
He was speaking to a group of Senators in the Oval Office two days after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
It is one of my all time favorite Bushisms...

The explanation of 0bama's failed foreign policy can be summed up in two words: mental masturbation.

Anyone who was truly serious would have sent aircraft carriers in addition to destroyers.

Tomahawks are satellite-guided cruise missiles...
So you find this little, inconsequential tent complex to bomb,
or even an aspirin factory, and then you
convince people you did soooooo much to strike back...
