Romney a wimp? Not so much, say gays who engaged with him as governor

... Romney sat stone-faced and almost entirely silent.

“Is there anything else?” Romney asked when they finished. With that, the meeting was over.

“It was like talking to a robot. No expression, no feeling,” recalls David Wilson, one of the plaintiffs in the case who met with Romney that day. “People were sharing touching stories, stories where you’d expect recognition in the other person’s face that they at least hear what you’re saying — that there’s empathy. He didn’t even shake his head. He was completely blank.”

Occasionally Romney would say something.

“I didn’t know you had families,” remarked Romney to the group, according to Wilson.

The offhanded remark underscored that Romney, the governor of the first state prepared to grant same-sex marriage, hadn’t taken the time to look at what the landmark case was really about. By this point the plaintiff’s stories had been widely covered by national media — in particular, Julie Goodridge’s heartrending tale of how her then-partner, Hillary, was denied hospital visitation following the precarious birth of daughter Annie. It was the ignorance of these facts — and Romney’s inaccurate, insensitive answer to her parting question, that pushed Julie Goodridge to her breaking point.

“I looked him in the eye as we were leaving,” recalls Goodridge. “And I said, ‘Governor Romney, tell me — what would you suggest I say to my 8 year-old daughter about why her mommy and her ma can’t get married because you, the governor of her state, are going to block our marriage?’”

His response, according to Goodridge: “I don’t really care what you tell your adopted daughter. Why don’t you just tell her the same thing you’ve been telling her the last eight years.”

It’s frickin’ Massachusetts for crying out loud, the most liberal state in the country. Does anyone think Mitt would have even gotten close to the governorship there if he was perceived as hardcore against gays?

Looking at his whole record, it appears to me that he’s a cold, heartless b*stard AND a wimp for the homosexuals.

Our choice is now Romney or obama, I didn’t choose Romney to run against obama, Romney and Paul were tied at the bottom of my list. It is imperiative that obama not serve a second term and he will not be beat by a 3rd party candidate or a “no vote” on the ballot. I know what Romney is but I’m supporting him anyway with time, effort and money. I don’t want to be a Conservative purist living in a marxist society.

Well, by sacrificing every conservative principle on the altar of political expediency, you're likely creating the conditions to be a "formerly Conservative im-purist living in a marxist society."

Hope he keeps up with this attitude

No kidding. At best, his position on same-sex issues has been mixed.

If Romney wins I’ll still be working to fix the Republican or a Conservative Party. Tell me how making a point by voting for a 3rd party candidate who will not win or a “no vote” is going to help our situation. I can see how our chances of surviving will be better if Romney is elected if we fail and obama is re-elected can you explain how we’ll be better off than if Romney loses? And I’m NOT sacrificing my principles, I’m trying to keep us going in an enviornment where we can work to restore these Conservative principles. We can lose this battle and the war will be over, we must win this battle to continue the war.

Wrong. It's only all over when the conservative electorate in America has given up their principles. Because at that point, there is no longer any check on the flood of evil.

Based on experience, I’m highly skeptical of those who tell me they’re going to do the right thing someday while they’re busy supporting the wrong thing.

Talk is cheap, and so are promises. But actions speak louder than words.

If the actions don’t line up with the words, I’m going to believe the actions every single time.

The fact is, Romney Republicans are for all practical purposes liberals, no matter what they say.

Talk IS cheap. If you want to be a purist sitting comiserating in a re-education camp while America collapses go ahead. I’ve been supporting Conservatives since 1962 and will continue into the future. You have yet to tell me how the struggle will be easier if obama wins as opposed to Romney and how thye future of Conservatism will be better if obama wins instead of Romney or how will obama be defeated by a “no vote” or voting for a 3rd party. Does any of the 3rd parties have money or support, am I to be the o0ne to stande up now and throw a few bucks at a third party where we can’t even get enough people for a group photo or even get on enough ballots to win if we carried evey state where we were on the ballot. This is real and now and I don’t needs anyone questioning my Conservatism or principles at this point. I believe we are in a war and I’m going to do what I believe is necessary to win and if that means I have to make an alliance with some I’m un-comfortable with so be it.

There are four things that ensure my vote goes to Romney.

He’s not a communist.

He’s not a muzzlim.

He’s not a faggot/druggie.

He’s a natural born citizen.

Considering that DBA 0bama is all four, he needs to get the hell out of the WH.

A lot of people fill those specs. The question is What IS Romney?

Since you pinged me, let me just say that you’re doing what you need to do. Fair ball.

I can’t support an abortionist, the inventor of gay ‘marriage’ or the grandfather of 0bamacare. But that’s my choice.

I pinged those I could see that were pinged along with my name.

I wish fervently that we had an actual conservative to vote for. However, such is not the case.

Soon war will be upon us, and I don’t want a Commander in Chief who is an enemy of the United States of America.

Joint Letter to Governor Mitt Romney from Pro-Family Leaders (This letter was hand-delivered to the Governor’s staff on Dec. 20, 2006.)

Thanks for posting the entire contents of that letter, SCP. People need to see it, so they can understand what sort of president Romney is going to be.

‘4. He refused to support Chick-Fil-A because “That wasn’t part of his campaign.”’

Is equivalent to the situation being above his pay grade.

Thanks WF.

However, I don't think anyone is listening and a lot of people are going to be greatly disappointed given Romney's penchant for both lying and telling people what they want to hear.

If he wins, I'm afraid he will destroy the GOP as a home for conservatives, in fact, I believe that was the purpose all along.
