If he were still being attacked, the crowd would have dragged him by his feet or with a rope. They seem to be carrying him best way possible given the circumstances. There are animals but there are also decent people there.
Why do they have their phones/cameras out? Who the heck takes pictures of a dead man as he is being taken to a hospital?
