Sabato: Obama's Convention Bounce Will Not Last

The boost for President Obama in polls following the Democratic National Convention is a “classic polling bounce” which will fade in a few weeks, University of Virginia political analyst Larry Sabato tells Newsmax.

Sabato also says this year is the “last gasp” of four-day national conventions due to viewer disinterest.

And he predicts that with few voters remaining undecided, the key to the November election will not be which side attracts swing voters but who energizes the base and gets out the vote.

Good analysis by Professor Larry Sabato. He always tries to cut straight through the BS. I absolutely agree with him about voter turnout. That will determine this election. And I still say no way in the world the Kenyan communist gets anywhere near the voter turnout he got in 2008. Romney will get more votes than McAmnesty did four years ago.

agree, I have done some research and RNC and Romeny have really good GOTV.. They already contacted over 20 million people by phone and door to door which has already suprised what they did in 2008.

Sabato always comes across as fair and reasonable to me.

Nana is reacting as I would after hearing of Romney’s eager arrival on Meet the Press and then proceeding to admire parts of Obamacare, for which he provided Obama his very own template from Massachusetts. This followed by Ryan lining up with Rahm Emmanuel on anything.

Come on, Romney can’t polite Obama to death and expect to draw a contrast which doesn’t exist, but for fiscal approaches.

I took two of his classes. Forty years ago he was a self-described lefty; however, even twenty years ago, he admitted to flipping a quarter before the Virginia primaries to decide which ballot he was going to use. He was very even handed in class.

The bottom line is that people will soon forget the great production of the Dem convention and ask what’s next with Obama. So far nothing is offered, other than keeping Romney out of the White House - while Romney is making an excellent economic case to take to the voters (regardless of his squishiness elsewhere).

It also occurs to me that there are a lot of states where Romney isn’t spending a dime of his hadvertising budget, where he doesn’t need to. Like here in Texas, I haven’t seen a single commercial for Romney. But, of course, Obama is on during the Olympics, and every other major sporting event. Romney got a bounce nationwide after the RNC because he was visible nationwide for a few days. Now, it seems like he’s disappeared to those folks who get all their news from the toob. So, in a national poll, it would stand to reason that Obama would be in the lead against Romney, particularly in states where Romney isn’t carpet bombing with the ads (i.e. non-swing states). Just a thought.

How can Buckwheat get a convention bounce when nobody watched the convention? Nielsen numbers are down significantly for both conventions. I smell more rat disinformation.
