Trump: If Republicans 'don't get tough, they're not going to win this election'
The Hill ^ | 09/10/12 | Justin Sink

Posted on 09/10/2012 4:51:00 PM PDT by KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle

Real estate mogul Donald Trump said Monday that Republicans have "got to get tougher" in order to prevail this November, saying he thought their handling of President Obama was "unbelievable."

“The one thing I have to tell the Republicans, they’ve got to get tougher," Trump said during an interview with Fox News. "If they don’t get tough, they’re not going to win this election.”

Trump went on to say that Republicans were "pandering" to the president, and compared their current strategy to that of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in his 2008 presidential campaign.

“Well, I think there are a lot of ways of getting tough," Trump said. "I think they’re pandering to Obama. I think they’re being so nice to Obama. It’s unbelievable. And John McCain made that mistake. He absolutely made that mistake and you know they’re just afraid to attack this man and he should be attacked.”

The reality television star conceded that he thought Democrats might have run a better convention — and benefited from not sharing headlines with the landfall of Hurricane Isaac.

“Let’s face it, I think the Republican convention first of all was hurt by the hurricane, or lack of hurricane, you know the hurricane never really hit heavy in Tampa but I guess they probably had to do what they did," Trump said. "But the fact is that the Democrats gave a great convention, there’s no question about it.”

Trump added that he felt that the Republicans did not include the right mixture of voices at their party convention — mentioning Sarah Palin by name, but also possibly referring to himself. A Trump "surprise event" planned for Monday at the Republican convention was canceled because of the storm.

"I think frankly I would have liked to have seen Sarah Palin speak," Trump said. "I would have liked to have seen some people speak that weren’t invited to speak and you know I think the Republicans did not have the right speakers. They had a lot of people that people say, ‘who are they, where did they come from?’ "

Heh, I don’t know :D

But on the serious side, while I definitely believe that polls are being doctored in an effort to demoralize and control, I also believe, as Trump stated, that republicans need to toughen.

I’m going to take it a step further though. It is we the base who need to toughen, because they are going to throw everything they have at us from now until the election. Everything.

I’m not even going to waste my time saying that the GOP needs to toughen, because they are part of the problem, and not any part of the solution.

They aren’t coming out strong against Obama, because they support what he is doing IMO. They are perfectly capable of using strong arm tactics against TEA party members in congress, but completely unwilling to do the same to the communist democrats purposely destroying this country.

To the GOP, conservatives are the enemy, and communist revolutionaries are friends.

However this election turns out, the GOP must be dealt with after. They are not the party that will save this country from its fate.

The Donald is right and the Repubs need to listen. 4 more years of BO is a frightening thought!

My door has been knocked on 3 times by Romney campaigners and I have a Romney sign in my yard!
Now I didn’t say they were bright I just said they were very active! At least in my neighborhood.

They have to knock on the doors where there are NO signs!

Yes studies do show they work. I believe Lee Atwater’s master's thesis was on that subject and drew that conclusion. I am just repeating what conservative-oriented people but NOT political junkies (like the denizens of this site!) say to me as I encounter them when I work and do personal activities.

Anyway traditionally the VEEP candidate is the attack dog, and the POTUS candidate tries remain above it all. Dole did that for Ford, then when he ran both he and Kemp went to sleep. Reagan didn't need one and anyway Bush I was more of a attack hamster. When Bush I ran at least the 2nd time Quayle got himself labeled as an attack vegetable and it stuck. Cheney filled the role well, so well he got labeled as a Star Wars villain by the left. Pailn did it well but she was handicapped by being tied a presidential candidate that looked like the best that the art of taxidermy could offer.

I think its too early to draw conclusions about how aggressive Romney will be. His personality strikes me as the “passive aggressive” type, so the use of surrogates doesn't surprise me. After what he did in the primary that seems to be his M.O.

Romney’s friends and not-friends are still waiting for him to begin his campaign ~ whatever it is.

Well, you know, his hands are tied! He can't spend that campaign money until he gets the nomination! Oh wait...

Probably not. Besides, with Chicago politics you never go wrong assuming the government is made up of thieves and charletons.

They got the union they deserve.

Ryan's from the Midwest ~ he knows better than to ever side with Chicago city government crud.

“That’s because you’re a genuine conservative, ma’am. [::tips hat::] ;) “

you’ve got to be kidding.

Have you not read any of TennNanna’s posts here on FR? TN is beside herself that Romney is the nominee, and is taking every opportunity to attack him. She much prefers the Muslim-hiding-in-plain sight over a patriotic American who happens to be a mormon. Keep reading her posts and mark my words. she spends most of her posts providing ammunition for the Demoncrats to use against Romney.

Heaven Save America from 4 more years of BO.

“So much for ANYONE could beat Obama”

Would have hoped that Romney’s people would have realized you can’t do a rerun of the McCain campaign and expect to beat BO. BO has too many supporters sucking off of Uncle Sam’s purse, along with the illegals, the dead and the usual voting fraud to expect that anyone could beat a BO being worshipped by the MSM at every turn.

She much prefers the Muslim-hiding-in-plain sight

1.) Link to any post of Nana's stating any such preference, or else admit that you simply reached back and tugged that one loose from your own hindquarters.

Here at Free Republic, claims are routinely backed up by evidence. We like it that way.

2.) Your files says you've been here since 2001. If so, then you're already fully aware that only gutless, craven cowards discuss other FReepers, by name, sans the mandatory courtesy of PINGing them to said conversation beforehand.

So far, that makes her 2-and-0 over you, observable conservative behavior-wise. Just saying.

Trump is mostly a clown, but he is absolutely right here.

Boy, ain't that the truth. I was talking with two friends today. Both are Conservatives and both commented "where in the hell is Romney?"

Just as you said, I'm getting the same feeling I got in 2008. Palin was the energy, enthusiasm, and youth to the ticket. This time around it's Ryan who fills that role. The GOP Presidential candidate in BOTH instances ( 2008 & 2012 ) gave me a lukewarm feeling

Keep this in mind and someone other than myself posted this quite awhile back. "We're running the guy ( Romney ) who lost to the guy ( McCain ) who lost the last election."

I looked it up and according to information I obtained Romney has run for election 22 times in his career ( he's 65 )... he's lost 17 of those attempts.

...and if Trump would have backed off the birth certificate issue and Limbaugh not called Fluke a slut we would be looking at a one term proposition exactly as Obama had predicted. Those two issues did nothing to advance the cause of conservatism, instead it cost the GOP the White House.

I haven’t changed my opinion but on a different and more shocking note Hannity is now predicting World War III. If it was Dick Morris making that prediction I wouldn’t be worried.

S/he had a lame response attacking Hannity. The question is, did s/he change her/his mind about this:

Obama’s speech accomplished what it was supposed to do which was to fire up the Democratic Party base. Yes there were a few critics on the dems side but overall the speech was good and it worked. There is no script as to what ahould be included in an acceptance speech so he went back to what has worked for him and I believe he delivered. The polls would seem to bear that out.
