Back in my drinking days, one of the guys I hung out with had been an F-4 fighter jock from Viet Nam and into the late 70's. He told me the story about how they thought they were the hottest stuff going until one day they were taking off and were just lifting off the runway when they noticed that an F-15 that had taken off just in front of them had executed a tight diameter loop and was on their tail. He said on that day, he knew the world had changed.

I’ve flown the F-4 (briefly), F-16 (extensively), and the F-15 (briefly).
The F-4 has never been known for agility, but remains a fine ground attack aircraft.
