(Reuters) - The North American box office hit a slump at the weekend, with top earner "The Possession" taking in less than $10 million and what could be the gloomiest overall haul since the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington. ----------------------------snip---------------------------
Among the few notable spots was the anti-President Barack Obama documentary "2016: Obama's America." It boosted its cumulative total to more than $26 million to become the second-biggest political documentary since liberal filmmaker Michael Moore's 2004 anti-war indictment, "Fahrenheit 9/11." . . .

I tend to watch foreign flicks more and more.
I recently took another look at Paul Verhoeven’s 2006 Dutch film ‘Black Book’ again. It’s awesome. Ever see it? It beats the hell out of some of the schlock he had been reduced to making in America (Basic Instinct, Showgirls, Hollow Man).
Is it better than Verhoeven’s “Man of Orange”?
Get out now! Pull the cord! Eject! Eject!
It may sound cruel, but we're only looking out for your back, buddy
The best thing I ever did in my life, bar none, was marry my beautiful, moral, conservative wife. 20 years and four kids later, I am happy, content, and have no regrets, which is more than I can say about my prior life.
Likewise and Bond after that to feed my addiction.
The last time I paid to see a film in a movie theater was 1993.
The film was a documentary called “Brother’s Keeper”.
Haven’t been to a movie since, and not expecting to enter a movie theater again in my life...
I might go see "Lincoln" at the theater but I already know I will buy a copy because Daniel Day Lewis is playing the lead and that makes it an instant classic (DDL has yet to fail me when he is in a lead role. the final scene of "There Will Be Blood" is one of the best performances I've ever had the pleasure to watch!)
The other movie I know I will buy, but probably won't go to the theater to see it is: "The Master". Philip Seymour Hoffman is another actor who never disappoints. "Capote" is astonishing and his portrayal of Gust in "Charlie Wilson's War" is flat out hilarious! Besides I can't wait to see a flick that sticks it in the eye of the Scientologists!
This summer is off about 200 million from last year, which was a peak, but at over 4 billion for the 5th year in a row is not the worst in 20 years by a long shot.

Thanks, I heard it on the radio yesterday morning and apparently didn’t catch it quite right.
Yeah, in a “oh, you’re going west with a guy named Donner?” kinda way.
You probably caught it right, but they were probably lying, what people forget is that one of the first skills Hollywood ever developed was crying poverty. They’re really good at declaring everything horrible and themselves completely broke and every production in the red while hauling in 4.1 billion dollars domestically in 122 days.
I’ve not seen ‘Soldier of Orange’ yet. I want to and some of the material conceived for that film but not included was later in Black Book.
Soldier of Orange was excellent, and featured a young Rutger Hauer.
I supported the movie industry. I saw 2016!
He was in a bunch of Verhoeven’s films. Including his first Anglophone feature (Flesh and Blood) which takes place in the 15th century and is utterly nasty!
guy named Donner? kinda way.
Didn’t see the movie but I think I know the movie, and Yep.
Just saw the movie this past weekend and thought it was excellent. Not overly dramatic and it was very factual.
The last time I paid to see a film in a movie theater was the original JAWS.
I plan to be at the opening night of Atlas II.
My wife who likes going to movies (I don’t any more) doesn’t care to go or to even watch part I.
We buy movies and watch them at home. We have many old movies, with some new ones.
