The ‘alert’ was a humorous way to give advice to citizens on how to prepare for such real threats as hurricanes, earthquakes, pandemics and terrorist attacks.
If zombies take over, the government wants you to be prepared.
The Homeland Security Department warned citizens on Thursday that the “zombies are coming,” and urged them to be ready for a walking-dead apocalypse, The Associated Press reported.
The zombie “warning” is part of a public health campaign calling for citizens to be ready for disaster — to know to stock up on food, batteries and water, and to keep extra changes of clothes and medication on hand.
Of course, those same preparations will also come in handy in case of a hurricane, earthquake, pandemic or terrorist attack, and that’s the idea behind the campaign.
In an online seminar, emergency planners were told to use zombies to get their point across that emergency preparation — for anything — is important.
The Centers for Disease Control used the same tactic last year with its zombie apocalypse social media campaign. The agency posted a blog post with detailed recommendations of how to survive a zombie attack.
A CDC spokesperson explained at the time that the campaign was introduced to get Americans interested in its annual campaign for hurricane preparedness.
“I worry we try the same thing every year and I didn’t know how many people we were actually engaging,” Dave Daigle of the CDC told The Los Angeles Times. “Let’s face it — preparedness and public health are not exactly sexy topics.”
In a statement, the CDC later confirmed it does not know of any zombie-like virus or condition.

I’m corn-fused right now, isn’t stocking up exactly what Homeland Security notices as signs of extremism? Ya know...right wing extremism?

This was talked about on another thread. The Homeland Security people say in that information to prepare for TWO DAYS to give you time to get to a FEMA refugee shelter.
I’m not going to their shelter, ever. You go ahead and prepare a two day emergency kit and head on to the FEMA shelter - good luck.

See, they only want you to have two days of preps, then you have to depend on them to keep you alive after that.

These and many more like events show (Flash Mobs, OWS, etc) that we have a large entitlement minded population that is violent prone. I think that during a collapse you will see many small businesses wiped out by flash mob looting, and once started it will quickly spread to rape, robbery and murder for murder sake. You will see what I call ‘pocket pogroms’ and if you ain’t ‘Amish’ you better not be around when they come.

Many of these ‘zombies’ will think no more about killing you to get ‘stuff’ than zombies in the last horror flick and do it just as gruesomely as any of the worse scenes in those same movies
Many of you who have read my post know I often refer to this quote from Star Trek Deep Space Nine:

It has repeated throughout history been shown that this is what happens to people once placed under such stressful conditions and yet you would be surprised how many people don’t realize the transformations that can take place under such conditions. And because of their ignorance many won’t even live long learn.

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.
As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Aren’t the four greatest needs in a zombie invasion, gasoline, shotguns, chainsaws, and dynamite?
One thing that cannot be over-emphasized is that your own health and physical conditioning is the most important element of your preparations.
Leviticus 25 is God’s plan for survival; can you handle it?
Its a tough program that is intended for an entire nation.
Glacial Ammonium Hydroxide (like for blueprint machines) in large plastic spray bottles will protect you in places where you can’t carry your gun.
Its more selective than teargas, but very effective if sprayed in their faces.
LOL!
And Occupy can breed without converting humans, making them more dangerous than zombies who can only convert.
