CHARLOTTE, N.C. His re-election in doubt, President Barack Obama conceded only halting progress Thursday night toward solving the nations economic woes, but vowed in a Democratic National Convention finale, Our problems can be solved, our challenges can be met.
The path we offer may be harder, but it leads to a better place, Obama said in advance excerpts of a prime-time speech to delegates and the nation.
The presidents speech was the final act of a pair of highly scripted national political conventions in as many weeks, and the opening salvo of a two-month drive toward Election Day that pits Obama against Republican rival Mitt Romney. The contest is close for the White House in a dreary season of economic struggle for millions.
With unemployment at 8.3 percent, Obama said the task of recovering from the economic disaster of 2008 is exceeded in American history only by the challenge Franklin Delano Roosevelt faced when he took office in the Great Depression in 1933.
It will require common effort, shared responsibility and the kind of bold persistent experimentation that FDR employed, Obama said.
In an appeal to independent voters who might be considering a vote for Romney, he added that those who carry on Roosevelts legacy should remember that not every problem can be remedied with another government program or dictate from Washington.
His campaign said the president would ask the country to rally around a real achievable plan that will create jobs, expand opportunity and ensure an economy built to last.
He added, The truth is it will take more than a few years for us to solve challenges that have built up over a decade.

Get this ass out of the White Hut, and start Criminal Investigations into his Legal Status of Eligibility, his Payoffs that were Treasonous, and his DOJ that has selectively ignored the Law (that also goes for the HHS and DHS, AND DOE).
Weren’t the Dems saying that we are absolutely better off than 4 years ago, just yesterday?
Now we get another promise of better days years and years in the future... The Great Slump Forward
More $$$free for his cronies.
Obama is running for savior, not president.
>>LOL...if this sap thinks he can dislodge the welfare class from their sofas to go clean up national parks and build zoos and bridges as the folks of much better character did during the Great Depression, he will be flushing even more money down the toilet. Our dependent class wont show up to work....and hes already said its fine with him.
They’ll show up for work. Then, they’ll hurt their back or have a nervous breakdown or get erectile dysfunction or some BS and then they’ll sue the gummint for a couple million dollars and go on full disability for life. All because they had to pick up a cigarette butt in a park.
The airwaves will be filled with commercials by ambulance-chasing scumbags: “Did you get hurt in your national recovery service job? Did they hurt your feelings or make you feel like less than a person by telling you what to do? You may be entitled to compensation.”
We all ready tried that route. $5 trillion later we are worse off in every way then when you took office 0.
>>Listen to his words, he is talking like a cult leader asking his followers to commit to him and his judgment in leading them to a new future.
It would be wonderful world if we woke up on Nov 7 and Obama had lost and all his followers were lying next to half-empty cup of kool-aid.
I do not think a candidate has ever gotten a negative bounce from a convention. This may be the first.
I doubt that the Japanese are going to go for the oky-doak again. Great observation!
Otay.
How FDR Made the Depression Worse by Robert Higgs

The nation did not really recover from the Great Depression until we were rid of FDR and his cronies by his death and subsequent elections.
Solution is very simple.
Raise taxes to 75 percent for everyone.
Raise minimum wage to $100/hour.
That will assure everyone of at least $25/hour, a living wage, and Government programs, such as welfare4life, will be amply funded with the 75 percent tax monies coming to the Government.
This makes perfect sense to Democrats and will get their votes.
At least, as long as there are no work or citizenship requirements.
There! The problem of jobs and economy neatly solved!
“Effort” = spending.
About half the nouns used by Democrats translate to “spending”.
Oh, yeah. He’s had four years to bring back those awful smokestack industries. *Sniff* *sniff* Nope, the slow motion, regulatory genocide continues, but we can see the NIMBY hags through cleaner air.
Roosevelt had a war that got the country out of a depression. I wouldn’t doubt obama starting one.
Another fossil fuels will necessarily skyrocket speech.
I remember some idiot on Beck’s show early on that suggested the government give everyone a million dollars. Beck and the rest of the panel pretended they didn’t hear him.
America wake up! Give this quasi-dictator spendaholic the boot.
5 trillion dollars you’ve charged to the American citizen’s tab. Now you’re going full FDR on us?
You’re going to pay for this how?
His campaign said the president would ask the country to rally around a real achievable plan that will create jobs, expand opportunity and ensure an economy built to last.
Which is.....what? A little more socialism? Another failed stimulus program?
I know! Whatever it is we’ll call it the “Failed Deal.” More of the same old socialist BS, but with a new name.
