Today Sen. Claire McCaskill visited Northwest Missouri State University to talk about student loans.
She started the talk off in spectacular fashion, telling the students if it wasn't for the benevolence of the Federal Government, only the rich would go to college:

When she mentioned she's had three 17 year old sons but wouldn't loan them money, I had to laugh at of the irony of it. She wouldn't loan them her money, but she'll gladly loan them yours.
And let's not forget about the logical fallacy you just heard. It's a popular one for leftists:
What Claire posited was a false dilemma. Her premise is, either the federal government loans money to go to college, or only rich kids can afford it.
It refuses to take market forces into consideration.
I attempted to point this out...

The Federal government caused the high price of college.
After WW2 college was relatively cheap (if you didn’t go to a prestigious ivy leage school.)
Along came government and student loans. Now you can borrow money to go to school. The schools now know that they can charge more, because the government will loan it to you, so tuition increases faster than anything else. You now need to borrow even more, so they can charge even more.
Now it’s 2012 and my daughter graduates with a degree in nurning and $82K in loans.

Akin is moving up in the polls. Race is neck and neck but republican voters in MO are starting to rally behind Todd Akin!
Could the same thing happen to Mitt Romney, too? Mitt can be his worst enemy.
Without the Federal government, college would be a lot cheaper and we’d have more than enough money to pay for it.
right now, only the broke graduate(sometimes)
THe next big crash will be student loans.
Students Paying More and Getting Less, Study Says

“the share of higher education budgets that goes to instruction has declined, while the portion spent on administrative costs has increased.”
(Sounds like every other Govt program.)
Maybe they could spend some of the millions in endowements they’re sitting on.
So when’s the congressional hearing on college ‘price gouging’ ?
McCaskill is a Moron.....
My Friend grew up on the poor side of town...worked small jobs, saved his money studied hard and went to UC Berkeley
He never got or asked for a single cent of help from anyone.
He even waited tables for the Rich Democrat Kids...ALL WHITE
who were there and teased Him for being sooo Low-class.
He did Fine and even is a Born again Christian, Republican,
He was not poisoned by Berkeleys Leftist Agenda.
Like all Democrats...They Have to Lie.
College can easily be replaced by the videos of the Feynman lectures and some inexpensive local TA homework review sessions.
As one of those options not considered, given the state of American education, the rich would get their education elsewhere.
We really blew it. We put money in a savings account for both our girls starting from birth and both graduated, one from Purdue and one from UC Santa Barbara without debt. We weren’t rich, just financially thrifty and felt it was a parents’ duty to do this for the children we brought into this world. They both supplimented what we provided with their own work.
Didn’t know we were supposed to pawn off parental responsibility to the gov’t.
