The amazing conclusion to yesterday’s snafu involving the Democratic platform’s language on Israel. After an evening of bad press they decided to reinsert the language about Jerusalem being the capital of Israel, along with some language about God after people noticed that the phrase “God-given” in the 2008 platform had been dropped in the new one. Simple process, in theory: Have someone from the floor propose adding the new language, then let the delegates approve it via a voice vote. The result? A trainwreck so awful that even Paul Begala didn’t try to spin it.
As you’ll see, Villaraigosa’s astonishment that there are so many nays is palpable, and pure gold. Reporters were taken aback too:

Exactly. A 2/3 majority should be TWICE as loud as the opposition. Someone’s going to take a decibel meter to this and have some fun with it.

The MSM will either neglect this story completely, or report simply that Obama has it in his platform. There is NO WAY they will show the booing, because it is an election killer to every Dem running.
What’s amazing is that they took three separate votes with the same result each time. The woman standing to the left finally says, I think, “We’re gonna do what we have to do anyway...” or something to that effect. I was surprised they caught it on audio.
One point that shouldn’t fall between the cracks on this is that Villagrosa ruled it passed over its obvious failing. They needed 2/3 in favor and got, at best 50/50. In fact, I’d say the final vote was heavy on the nays. This means it was passed by fiat, not floor vote. That’s also very important and should be noted in any discussion about this. I was illegally passed.
