I love Free Republic. I enjoy posting and reading other peoples insights and ideas. But I'm troubled and confused by the fact that while we all post and read daily the horrible things that Barack Obama is doing to our great nation, we are encouraged to "sit this one out" or vote third party. I understand Mr. Robinson owns this site and agree with his views on probably most every subject. I appreciate the stand he has taken and how he has always been true to his beliefs. He has provided an outlet that is invaluable to the Conservative community.
We've been through one day of the Democratic convention and I'm terrified. Mitt Romney wasn't even my fifth choice, but, my God, what an Obama with no fear of running in another election will do with four more years is unfathomable. And he doesn't need Congress, the man rules by Executive Fiat. I don't want to live under Socialism, I don't want to have my church forced to act against its conscience, I don't want my guns taken away and my (limited) wealth redistributed. I was shocked when God was taken out of the Dems platform. They don't even try to hide their disdain for a higher power, just blatantly remove God from their entire belief system. Basically show their hand that they want Jerusalem taken away from Israel. I can't take it anymore! I hear how eloquent Michelle Obama's speech was and I want to be sick. All lies! My family contains many military members, mostly Marines, they are sickened by their CIC. We were brought up to respect the Office of the President, but I'm finding it harder and harder to do every day. My sister is out of work after 30 years at the same company, and she is in a deep depression. My elderly mother is in a nursing home and is still finding it hard to find a primary care doctor and Obamacare hasn't even fully kicked in!
I live in NY and could vote for Mickey Mouse and it would make no difference. But I just can't sit around and hope others will do what I won't and vote for Romney/Ryan. So, yes, I will admit to compromising some of my conservative principles in voting Romney/Ryan because I don't think we will survive as a nation with four more years of Obama. Ryan helps make that decision a little easier. And with all Romney's flip-flops, I still think he will help this country in ways Obama the in-over-his- head President never could. The stakes in this election are just to damn high.
I know an Abbeyville LA conservative. Are your initials J. F?
Well, montanajoe, you will never be posing on Free Republic if Obama gets elected because he will shut it down along with all the other conservative sites. Have fun with DU if you can last over 30 minutes there. One other thing, I like Free Republic but I guess you don’t since you are hell bent on electing a dictator that will remove it from existence. Reminds me of a little brat kid who doesn’t get his way so he stamps his feet and holds his breath ‘till he turns blue only to realize he’s only hurting himself.
Well said and thanks for your courage.
Neither side is going to fix what actually needs fixing barring a miracle from God. At this point, it’s “Vote for the side that will let you keep more of your stuff and let you be better armed” before the real pain and suffering comes. It’s not to hard to noodle out who that will be...
I rest my case. Forrest Gump’s mother was spot on in your case, since you are voting for Obama.
Obama the capitalism-hating, liberty-hating, America-hating Marxist must be destroyed!!
Glad you posted that. I missed it also.
You can be sure that Obama will fail this “test” you’re proposing. At least with Romney, there’s a chance that the answers to your questions will be to the county’s benefit. The primary reason I have hope for Romney is his selection of Ryan: That, to me, demonstrated Romney is seeking to change the politics-as-usual situation.
If Obama wins, we won’t have any free speech rights left. Obama will get 2-3 justices that will uphold all his EOs shutting down the Internet and restricting PAC activities. Romney is no panacea, but Obama is a devil.
The simple fact is that either Obama or Romney will be elected in November. That is the choice before us. We can wish there was a better choice but there is not. That being the case, I think what every conservative has to do is very clear.
“There’s an awful lot you can tell about a person from their shoes”?
“Not to take rides from strangers”?
Mrs Gump: “You’re gonna have to figure that out for yourself”
A huge Amen to your comments. I will proudly cast my vote for Romney/Ryan to defeat Barry and get the Manchuian Candidate and his anti-American goons out! I wish the election were today. November 6th can’t get here soon enough.
There are situations where death is preferable to survival, considering the circumstances that accompany that “survival.”
I also cannot think of a president that has the potential (and objective) to cause so much more damage to the USA and, as a result, the world.
You’re argument regarding the selection of Supreme Court justices is misplaced. Both Scalia and Kennedy are of an age where one (or both) could easily pass away or become incapacitated in the next 4 years. Given your stated preference, Obama would then be choosing as many as 4 new justices, dramatically changing the culture for at least a generation. Is that truly a risk you want to take?
Romney has demonstrated the possibility (cf: Ryan) he would select justices far less likely to take the progressive courses that Obama’s choices most certainly would take.
OMG - 1,547 posts on that thread before you closed it. That is proof positive of how ‘monolithic’ conservatism is nothing of the sort.
Is this a record response? I would think that it is obviously right up there at the top.
FYI: I agree fully that this Obamanation MUST GO!
Romney won’t do anything about those issues. Maybe a Tea Party led House and Senate will make some inroads on those. Maybe.
Romney and the republicans will bring spending and taxes under control, stop crippling regulations from the likes of the EPA and adopt a “drill baby drill” policy.
I can’t stand Romney but my family may not survive financially should O get re-elected.
If you love Communism, go ahead and vote for anybody but Romney. The blood that shall be spilt, as a result of your vote, shall be on your hands.
I do not, have not, cannot, and will not suffer Communism, in this great nation. I swore an Oath, and by all heavens, I am not dead yet, and neither is my Oath. I know what Socialism is, and it is just a shade of grey from Communism.
I’ve seen what evil fervent Communists do to their opponents, and you folks think abortion is bad?? Read the reports of the Khmer Rouge, the Viet Cong, and tell me that “there ain’t any Americans that would stoop so low”. Well, bloody EXCUUSE ME! What about all those fools that want “to get at some crackers”? What about those that DO espouse, openly, Communist theology and are part of the OWS?
Everybody that has sat on their fat “yes, yes, yes”, and have done or said nothing, is now part of the problem!
It’s your choice.
Romney or Obama will be the next President. When you spend all your time trashing Romney, you are actively campaigning to reelect Obama.
That may not be the intent of your actions, it is the result.
Your sort of “conservative” is the useful idiot of the Democrat propaganda machine. Rather the work with someone who agrees with us 85% of the time, you would rather reelect someone who disagrees with us 100% of the time.
That is politically stupid. NOTHING in life is ever 100%. Your demand for total political purity is merely an excuse to sit on your ass and do nothing. It is merely a rationalization for political laziness.
